BLACK COFFEE'S EUROPEAN TRIUMPH IS A VICTORY FOR SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC

The music industry celebrates a moment of pride, possibility and global impact.

Johannesburg, South Africa – There are moments in music that transcend charts, awards and sold-out venues. Moments that remind us how far a dream can travel. As Black Coffee stepped onto the stage of the historic Arènes de Nîmes in France and prepared for a landmark performance at London's world-renowned O2 Arena alongside a live orchestra, South Africa paused to celebrate one of its greatest cultural ambassadors.

These are more than concerts. They are milestones.

For many South Africans, Black Coffee's journey has been one of inspiration, resilience and unwavering belief in the power of African creativity. From local dance floors to some of the world's most prestigious stages, he has consistently carried the spirit of South African music with him, introducing global audiences to the richness, sophistication and soul of our sound.

What makes these performances even more special is the remarkable gathering of artists joining him on this journey. International stars and acclaimed collaborators including Alicia Keys, Monique Bingham, Portia Monique, Msaki, Real Soul Star, Nduduzo Makhathini and Nakhane represent a celebration of musical excellence that transcends borders, genres and generations.

"Black Coffee continues to remind us that South African music belongs on the world's biggest stages," said Unati Gwija, South Africa Music Awards spokesperson. "His success is not only personal; it is collective. Every time he performs before international audiences, he carries a piece of South Africa with him and inspires countless artists back home to dream bigger."

For the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), these moments speak directly to a vision that extends beyond recognition and accolades. They reflect a growing movement of South African artists who remain deeply rooted in their identity while finding audiences across the globe. This spirit is captured in the concept of 'Friends of the SAMAs – Roots to the World Arenas', a celebration of artists who honour where they come from while boldly taking South African stories, sounds and excellence to the world.

Black Coffee's performances in France and the United Kingdom stand as a powerful reminder that music remains one of South Africa's greatest exports. Through his artistry, innovation and commitment to excellence, he continues to create pathways for future generations of African musicians and creatives. As the lights shine on these iconic European stages, South Africans everywhere can take pride in knowing that one of our own is not simply performing to the world; he is helping shape the global soundtrack of our time.

The South African music industry, RiSA and the South African Music Awards congratulate Black Coffee on these historic performances and wish him continued success as he continues to elevate African music on the world stage.

Johannesburg, South Africa - The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) is delighted to officially announce that the 32nd edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) will return “home” to the North West Province on 15 August 2026, a moment described as both emotional and historic for the local creative industry. Widely regarded as the “Platinum Province” and the traditional home of the SAMAs, the North West has hosted some of the awards’ most iconic moments over the years, making this return a celebration of legacy, music excellence and national pride.

The announcement was made on 27 May 2026 by the North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, who could not hide her excitement at the return of South Africa’s premier music celebration.

An elated MEC Tlhapi declared: “It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West. This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation.”

She added that the return of the SAMAs marks not just an event, but a renewed celebration of the province’s cultural energy, hospitality and creative infrastructure.

According to SAMA spokesperson Unati Gwija, preparations are already underway, with key stakeholder engagements taking place to ensure a seamless and unforgettable production.

Gwija confirmed: “We have already begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs. There is a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to the North West, a province that has proven itself as an exceptional host.”

The announcement has sparked excitement across the music and entertainment industry, with anticipation building for what is expected to be one of the most vibrant and culturally significant editions of the awards to date.

With the SAMAs returning to familiar ground, MEC Tlhapi is describing SAMA 32 as a “homecoming edition”, a celebration of music, legacy and the continued evolution of South African sound on its biggest stage.
