Bananas were used as a food for men even before history began to be written. The armies of Alexander the Great found the banana growing in india in 327 b.c. No doubt it was growing there long before that time. Because of an old strory that the sages of india rested in the shade of the plant and ate itc fruit, the banana is often called the "Fruit of the wise men."
