๐ŸŽง MISSED THE INTERVIEW? THE PODCAST IS UP ๐ŸŽง

Student success is everyone's business โ€“ and this week on Lunch Club with Dylan Arendse, Jacolette Kloppers asked five guests what actually happens to your module feedback after you click submit. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐ŸŽ“

In studio: the Programme Manager for Student Access and Success at , the Higher Education Adviser who runs the institutional feedback system, associate professors from Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and from Psychology, and the outgoing chairperson of the Academic Affairs Council. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

This was the eighth of 15 conversations in our Student Success Series. ๐Ÿ”Ž

In this episode we discuss:
๐Ÿ“‹ The path from a completed survey to an actual change in a classroom โ€“ and how anyone knows whether that change worked.
๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Feedback fatigue, and what happens to the quality of your answers when you are filling in surveys for 10 to 15 lecturers in one semester.
๐Ÿ” Closing the loop: one lecturer tells every new cohort what the previous group raised, and what changed because of it.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Why WhatsApp groups and corridor conversations often carry more honest feedback than the official forms.
๐Ÿค Moving students from evaluators to partners โ€“ designing solutions alongside staff, not being consulted afterwards.

Student satisfaction is not the same thing as teaching quality. This episode unpacks the difference. ๐Ÿ’›

Almost time for our favourite show!

We are still thinking about our heritage as a people โ€” the stories we carry, the cultures that have shaped us, and the ideas about who we are that are passed from one generation to the next.

Masculinity is deeply woven into our social lives: what it teaches us about being men, what it asks of men, what it takes from them, and the places where some of these expectations have gone wrong.

This week on SiyakhulaLive, we are joined by marketing consultant and creative Thabo Maseko, the mind behind Letters to Masculinity โ€” an emerging body of work creating space for conversation, reflection and healing around masculinity.

As we look ahead to Mental Health Awareness Month in October, we are also thinking about the relationship between masculinity and our mental and emotional wellbeing โ€” and what becomes possible when we create more space for vulnerability, tenderness, honest conversation and healing.

๐Ÿ“– READING, WRITING, AND WHY BOTH DECIDE YOUR MARKS ๐Ÿ“–

Most of your learning does not happen in a lecture hall. It happens when you read. So what happens when reading is the first thing to lose out to your phone? Tomorrow (17 September 2026) at 11:00, we get into it. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐ŸŽ“

Joining Matthew Gray on AM2PM are two guests from SU Language Centre at Stellenbosch University: the coordinator of the Reading Lab and the Coordinator of Writing Lab Workshops. Jacolette Kloppers leads the conversation. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

This is episode 9 of our Student Success Series โ€“ 15 conversations about the support that already exists around you, and how to reach it. All previous episodes are up as podcasts. ๐ŸŽง

In tomorrow's conversation:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Whether reading can still compete with social media and digital entertainment, and whether South Africa has a reading culture problem
โœ๏ธ How note-taking and asking questions while you read actually improve what you understand and retain
๐Ÿค– Why engaging with the source text still matters in an age of AI
๐ŸŽ“ Writing Lab workshops for postgrads โ€“ journal articles, literature reviews, research proposals, theses and dissertations, academic arguments, and writing marathons
๐Ÿซ‚ What reading does beyond your marks: perspective, empathy, and growth

๐Ÿšจ ORNICA BELLZ ON THE LIFT CLUB ๐Ÿšจ

Tomorrow on The Lift Club, are joined by Durban vocalist, dancer and choreographer Ornica Bellz (), fresh off the release of her new single Inkomishi with and . ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Inkomishi translates as cup, but the phrase Zaphambana Inkomishi is about the moment everything turns upside down. The song follows a man chasing a woman who turns out to be interested in his friend instead, and Ornica and Zee turn that small disaster into a floor-filler. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

What we are getting into: ๐ŸŽค Mthatha to Durban, and the church choir that accidentally started a career โœˆ๏ธ The R6 500 gamble that got Inkomishi made ๐Ÿ’„ Music, movement and makeup, and how she keeps all three running at once

๐Ÿ“Š The BER retail survey is out, and retailers' confidence is back at its long-term average ๐Ÿ“Š

Retail confidence has climbed to 40%, putting it in line with the long-term average. But the trade sector is not moving as one: while retailers are steadier, new vehicle dealers recorded the sharpest drop in confidence of any sector in the latest RMB/BER business confidence index. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Tonight on The Daily Vibe, .e_nathan sits down with Nomvelo Moima, junior economist at at , to unpack what the third quarter numbers say about how South Africans are spending.

We're getting answers to:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Back to average: what lifted retailer confidence to 40%, and how much that milestone really means.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Still lagging: the parts of the trade sector yet to recover, with fuel prices sitting higher than they were at the start of the year.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Beyond retail: what the same survey found in wholesale and the motor trade.
๐Ÿ‘‰ New vehicle dealers: why this sector posted the biggest confidence decline of them all, and what businesses expect for the rest of 2026.

๐ŸŽ“ Four Stellenbosch students are consulting for a real startup, and tonight they tell us what KOS taught them ๐ŸŽ“

Florence, Tadiwanashe, Chanda and Bonolo are the consultant team working with KOS, the hyper-local food delivery and cultural food discovery platform built by Maties Tsundzuka Mnisi and David Mwangi under MzansiKos (Pty) Ltd. Since its pilot in March, .app has grown to eight restaurant partners and 580 registered users, and this team is helping the founders work out how to scale it. Real business, real problems, no textbook. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Tonight on The Daily Vibe, .e_nathan sits down with the four consultants to talk about what it takes to advise a live startup while you are still a student yourself.

We're getting into:
๐Ÿ› A quick introduction to KOS, and what each consultant actually does on the team
๐Ÿค Why they joined Phaphama SEDI in the first place
๐Ÿš€ What it has been like working with Tsundzuka and David, and what the founders have taught them about the business
๐Ÿงฉ The real problems they are tackling with KOS, and how they are approaching the solutions
๐Ÿ’ก What consulting for a live startup has taught them that a lecture hall never could

STELLIES, let's get cooking! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

It is Tuesday, 15 September, and is back for another essential edition of Expert Express, this time on braai sides in Stellenbosch that earn their place on the table. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Note the change: Heleen joins us at 15:00 this week only, not the usual 15:15. ๐Ÿ•’

Side dishes are so often a side thought. You plan the meat for days, then panic-buy a bag of rolls and a tub of coleslaw on the way to the braai. Heleen is here to fix that. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

On the Menu Today: Healthier braai sides ๐Ÿฅ—

From the salad that does not wilt in the sun to the veggie skewers that quietly steal the show, this is a full rethink of everything that goes next to the meat. ๐Ÿ’ก

We'll be chatting about:
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Planning the table: How to think about sides before the fire is even lit, so nothing gets thrown together at the last minute.
๐Ÿฅ— Lighter and fresher: Small swaps that make salads and sides healthier without making them boring.
๐ŸŒฝ Beyond the pap: What else can carry a braai plate when pap is off the menu.
๐Ÿข Veggie skewers: Heleen walks us through exactly how she makes them, step by step.
