Moving hearts for mobility!

Stellenbosch University recently launched Operation Maties Bikes, delivering 150 bicycles to rural communities where transport barriers often shape life outcomes.

In partnership with the Transformation Office and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the project advances health equity and community well-being through education, research, and service by distributing bicycles to rural schools, undergraduate students placed in rural health facilities, and NGOs supporting community health workers across the Western Cape.

🎬 For His Sake a powerful 10-minute student doccie by SU Journalism Honours grads is headed to the Durban International Film Festival, with a shot at Oscar consideration!

Set in Ida’s Valley, the film tells the story of Faizel and his son Shuaib at Art’s Barber Shop, a third-generation family business that doubles as a beloved community hub.

Shot in just three weeks for the Documentary Storytelling module, it’s a moving portrait of legacy, identity, and father-son connection.
