Cricket South Africa, in partnership with the National Youth Service (NYS), is offering young people the chance to serve, learn, and grow while gaining valuable experience.

This exciting 6-month opportunity gives you the chance to:

A line thunderstorm, also known as a squall line, forms when a line of thunderstorms develops in a narrow band, often ahead of a cold front. As warm, moist air rises and cools, it condenses into towering cumulonimbus clouds. Wind shear and instability in the atmosphere contribute to the development of strong updrafts and downdrafts, leading to heavy rain, hail, lightning, and strong winds. The line of storms can stretch for hundreds of kilometers, bringing severe weather to a large area. Squall lines can cause significant damage and disruption, especially if they produce tornadoes or derechos.

Extratropical cyclones, sometimes called mid-latitude cyclones or wave cyclones, are low-pressure areas which, along with the anticyclones of high-pressure areas, drive the weather over much of the Earth. Extratropical cyclones are capable of producing anything from cloudiness and mild showers to severe hail, thunderstorms, blizzards, and tornadoes. These types of cyclones are defined as large scale (synoptic) low pressure weather systems that occur in the middle latitudes of the Earth. In contrast with tropical cyclones, extratropical cyclones produce rapid changes in temperature and dew point along broad lines, called weather fronts, about the center of the cyclone.[1]

This occurs when a more energetic river erodes its channel upstream until it intercepts the flow of a neighboring, less energetic river, effectively "capturing" its water.

River capture is a natural process which is more active in the youthful stage of the valley develop­ment because the streams are actively engaged in head-ward erosion and valley lengthening but river cap­ture also occurs during mature and senile stages of the valley development through the process of lateral erosion and meander intersection.
The stronger and more powerful streams (in terms of channel gradient, stream velocity and discharge and kinetic energy) capture the upper courses of weak and sluggish streams.
