SADC, a group of old useless men showing no mercy for the oppressed people of Eswatini after appointing King Mswati as Deputy Chairperson for their useless gangster's group.

SWAZILAND TODAY

King Mswati's blatant disregard for human rights and democratic principles has reached a new low, as he continues to ignore the plight of incarcerated members of parliament, political activists, and human rights lawyers in Eswatini. Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube, who have been languishing in prison for four years for speaking out against the king's authoritarian rule, remain imprisoned without any signs of release or due process.

King Mswati III's oppressive rule has reached a new level of cruelty and injustice, as he continues to ignore the plight of political prisoners and human rights defenders in the kingdom of Eswatini. While the king enjoys extravagant trips abroad, his citizens are left to languish in overcrowded prisons, many facing trumped-up charges and brutal mistreatment.
Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube, two Members of Parliament who dared to speak out against the king's autocratic regime, have been rotting in jail for four long years without any signs of release or a fair trial.

The pain and suffering of these innocent prisoners is compounded by the fact that the king has also turned a blind eye to the murders and disappearances of political activists, including human rights lawyers, throughout the country. Instead of seeking justice for these heinous crimes, Mswati has used his power to silence any dissent and maintain his grip on the country.
The chilling effect of the king's authoritarianism can be seen in the hundreds of young activists who have been jailed and charged with phony terrorism charges, simply for exercising their right to protest and demand democracy.

As King Mswati's reign of terror continues unchecked, Eswatini stands on the brink of a humanitarian crisis. The country's citizens live in fear, with no assurance of safety or justice from their own government. The absence of any semblance of democracy or rule of law has led to widespread poverty, human rights violations, and corruption, perpetuating a cycle of oppression that shows no signs of ending.
The international community must not remain silent in the face of this travesty.

Eswatini Regime Celebrated Police Day Amidst Lingering Pain of June 29, 2021.

August 18, 2025
Swato News

As the Eswatini regime markes Police Day with displays of tactical prowess and precision, the nation is reminded of the somber events that transpired on June 29, 2021. On that fateful day, the very skills being showcased today were used to inflict pain and suffering on unarmed protestors, leaving an indelible mark on the collective memory of eMaswati.

The images of police officers in tactical gear, executing maneuvers with precision, are a stark contrast to the scenes of chaos and violence that unfolded nearly two years ago. The same hands that now hold guns with precision were responsible for pulling the triggers that took lives, maimed bodies, and left families shattered.

The wounds of June 29, 2021, are still fresh, with many still grappling with the physical and emotional scars inflicted by the state forces. Some continue to live with bullets lodged in their bodies, a constant reminder of the brutality they endured. Others have lost limbs, their lives forever altered by the actions of those sworn to protect them.

The memories of those who were thrown into open flames, their bodies burned beyond recognition, still haunt the nation. The cries of the families who lost loved ones, the pleas of those who were left with permanent disabilities, and the anguish of those who were forced to flee their homes in search of safety still echo through the streets of Eswatini.

As the regime celebrates Police Day, it is imperative to remember the pain and suffering inflicted on eMaswati. It is crucial to acknowledge the human cost of the actions taken by the state forces and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The people of Eswatini deserve justice, healing, and reconciliation. They deserve to know that those who were responsible for the violence will be held accountable and that measures will be taken to prevent such atrocities from happening again.

As we mark Police Day, let us not forget the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives, the families who were torn apart, and the individuals who were left with permanent scars. Let us work towards a future where such events are never repeated, and where the people of Eswatini can live in peace, free from fear and violence.

The Swaziland Today News calls on the government to:

- Establish an independent commission to investigate the events of June 29, 2021, and hold those responsible accountable
- Provide adequate compensation and support to the victims and their families
- Implement measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future
- Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights within the police force

The people of Eswatini deserve nothing less.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SWALIMO Condemns King Mswati III's Election as SADC Troika Deputy Chairperson, Citing Egregious Human Rights Abuses and SADC's Failure to Act

Monday, August 18, 2025

MBABANE, ESWATINI – The Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) expresses its profound disappointment and outrage at the recent election of King Mswati III, Eswatini's absolute monarch, as the Deputy Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation (the Troika). This decision, announced at the 45th Ordinary SADC Summit in Madagascar this weekend, is a grave insult to the people of Eswatini and a disturbing endorsement of tyranny by a regional body purportedly dedicated to peace, security, and human rights.

SWALIMO unequivocally condemns this election, which sends a chilling message that accountability for gross human rights violations can be bypassed for political expediency. King Mswati III presides over a regime characterized by systemic repression, a complete disregard for democratic principles, and widespread abuses against his own people. We remind SADC and the international community of the following undeniable facts:A Reign of Terror and Banned Freedoms: Under King Mswati III, political parties remain effectively banned, and any form of dissent is met with brutal force. Civil society activists, journalists, and pro-democracy advocates face relentless harassment, arbitrary arrests, detention, torture, and physical violence. The tragic assassination of prominent human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko in January 2023, among other extrajudicial killings, remains uninvestigated by the state, denying victims and their families justice.

The 2021 Massacre of Unarmed Civilians: The election of King Mswati III comes despite his direct responsibility for the horrific massacre of unarmed Swazis during the pro-democracy protests of June and July 2021. When citizens peacefully demanded democratic reforms, Mswati's security forces responded with live ammunition, tear gas, and an internet shutdown. While the government officially acknowledged a death toll of 27 to 34, credible human rights organizations and independent commissions reported a much higher figure, with some estimates nearing 100 unarmed Swazis brutally butchered and hundreds more sustaining severe injuries, including gunshot wounds.

SADC's Abject Failure to Uphold Its Mandate: The SADC Troika Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, whose very purpose is to prevent and resolve conflicts and promote good governance in the region, demonstrated a woeful failure to adequately address the Eswatini crisis during and after the 2021 unrest. Despite dispatching fact-finding missions and calling for national dialogue, SADC allowed King Mswati III to repeatedly postpone and derail genuine inclusive talks. His recent declaration that "peace has been restored" and Eswatini was removed from the Troika agenda, against the backdrop of continued repression and a lack of true reform, is a testament to SADC's complicity through inaction. This election is not just a diplomatic blunder; it is a betrayal of the Swazi people's legitimate aspirations for freedom and democracy. To elevate a monarch with such an egregious human rights record to a position of leadership within a regional security body undermines SADC's credibility and casts a dark shadow over its commitment to its foundational principles.

SWALIMO calls upon SADC leaders to reconsider this deeply flawed decision and to instead focus on holding King Mswati III accountable for his crimes against humanity. We urge SADC to actively support the people of Eswatini in their struggle for a democratic, just, and free society where human rights are respected and protected for all. We will continue our unwavering fight to eliminate the oppressive absolute monarchical system and establish a democratic Eswatini where the people govern and enjoy equal rights and freedoms. The election of King Mswati III will only strengthen our resolve.

Swaziland Today News has received reports that a group of Eswatini students were denied entry into South Africa at the Ngwenya border post today by border officials. According to sources, the students were turned back due to not possessing valid study permits.

This development has sparked controversy, with some teachers in South African schools expressing support for the border officials' actions. These educators claim that Eswatini students often display a lack of respect for rules and regulations, which they believe justifies stricter enforcement.

The incident raises concerns about the challenges faced by Eswatini students seeking education in South Africa. Swaziland Today News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, we seek comment from the relevant authorities and stakeholders to shed more light on this developing story.

Disparity in Awards Raises Questions About Monarchy's Priorities!

August 8, 2025
Swato News

Eswatini's recent awards ceremony has sparked controversy, with a stark contrast between the recognition given to cultural participants and talented athletes. An imbongi, a traditional praise poet, was awarded E25,000 for participating in the Ingwenyama Cup Culture, while the best female goalkeeper received a significantly smaller award of E600.

This disparity has raised questions about the monarchy's priorities and whether they adequately support talented individuals in various fields. With over 60% of Eswatini's population being youth, the impact of these priorities on opportunities for young people across different fields is worth considering.

While some may see the award to the imbongi as a celebration of Eswatini's rich cultural heritage and traditions, others argue that this discrepancy reflects a broader issue in the kingdom. The significant difference in awards highlights a potential imbalance in how talent and cultural participation are valued.

A balanced approach that recognizes and rewards talent and achievement in multiple areas could help ensure that all citizens have opportunities to thrive. The discussion around these awards invites a broader consideration of how the Eswatini monarchy can support the development of its citizens, particularly the youth.

The monarchy's values and awards may have far-reaching implications for the country's youth and the development of various talents and skills.

As Eswatini moves forward, it will be essential to consider how to create opportunities that support the growth and success of all its citizens.

Rituals Over Talent?
The recent awards given by the Eswatini king have sparked controversy, with many questioning the priorities of the monarchy.

Swato News

The female best goalkeeper was awarded a mere E600, while those who danced for Lutsango, the king's ritual ceremony, were given E110,000. This stark contrast highlights a concerning disparity in the value placed on talent and achievement in sports versus cultural participation.

Some might argue that this discrepancy reflects a broader issue in the kingdom, where talent and achievement in sports and other areas are not adequately recognized or supported.

The significant difference in awards raises questions about the monarchy's priorities and whether they truly value the contributions of all its citizens. It's worth considering whether this disparity might discourage talented individuals from pursuing their passions, knowing that their efforts may not be valued or recognized.

Others might see the large award for Lutsango dancers as a reflection of the cultural significance of the ceremony and the importance of preserving traditional practices. However, this perspective doesn't necessarily justify the vast difference in awards.

One might expect a more balanced approach that recognizes and rewards talent and achievement across various fields, including sports. The controversy surrounding these awards invites a broader discussion about the values and priorities of the Eswatini monarchy and how they impact the kingdom's citizens.

Over 250 US immigrants to be deported in Rwanda.
[Laba Betele i- fact Finding Mission]

5 Aug 2025
Swato News

The Rwandan government has agreed to accept up to 250 deportees from the United States as part of President Donald Trump's expanded third-country deportation program.

This move comes after the US had previously deported individuals to other African nations, including 13 people to South Sudan and 5 men to Eswatini, who were described as "dangerous criminals" with convictions in the US.

Key Details of the Agreement:

- Number of Deportees: Up to 250 individuals will be accepted from the US.

- Target Group: Mainly those with criminal records who have completed their prison sentences.

- Financial Support: Rwanda expects to receive financial aid for infrastructure and deportee support.

- Integration Plan: Deportees will receive stipends and job assistance to help them settle in Rwanda.

Concerns and Implications:

- Human Rights:
Organizations have raised concerns about the safety and rights of deportees, warning that such agreements can undermine international protection rules.

- Integration Challenges:
Deportees may face language barriers, cultural differences, or trouble finding work in Rwanda

- Rwanda's Gains:
The agreement is seen as a way for Rwanda to recover from a failed deal with the UK and demonstrate its role in global migration issues.

The Eswatini government has faced intense scrutiny for its crackdown on pro-democracy activists, with reports of torture, abduction, killings, and imprisonment.

Swato News

Those calling for democratic reforms in the country have been met with brutal force, sparking widespread condemnation from human rights groups and the international community. The government's actions have created a climate of fear, silencing dissenting voices and stifling debate about the country's future.

Activists and opposition leaders have been targeted, with many forced into hiding or exile. The government's tactics have been described as a blatant attempt to suppress the rights of citizens to express themselves and assemble peacefully.

The use of torture and other forms of ill-treatment has been particularly alarming, with reports suggesting that detainees have been subjected to physical and psychological abuse.

The international community has expressed concern about the situation in Eswatini, with calls for the government to respect human rights and uphold democratic principles.

However, the government's response has been muted, with little indication that it is willing to reform its approach to dissent. As a result, the people of Eswatini continue to live in fear, with their rights and freedoms under constant threat.
