GYV-SARN SPORTING TEAM: Empowering Youth Through Sports & Education

Gauteng Young Vision (GYV) – under the visionary leadership of Mr. Elias Sibeko, Chairman of Gauteng Young Vision NPO and Founder of SA Young Vision Marketing & Advertising (SA Rainbow News) – has launched an ambitious programme titled Sports and Education 2025 & Action Plan 2030. This initiative aims to transform sports and education for youth, learners, parents and communities across South Africa.

The Sports and Education 2030 Vision is a long-term strategy designed to ensure quality performance, inclusion, and access to opportunities. It focuses on improving the experiences of youth and learners through enhanced sporting and teaching materials, mentorship, and strengthened social infrastructure. The Action Plan 2025 sets out 27 key goals that will drive this transformation and embed a culture of sports and education within GYV programmes.

According to Mr. Sibeko, GYV Sports and Education supports these goals in two critical ways:

1. Enhancing Youth Talents and Life Skills – GYV offers youth in townships support to develop their talents and life skills, including critical thinking, decision-making, and coping mechanisms. This approach helps players and learners better appreciate the importance of education while equipping them to deal with life’s challenges.

2. Retention and Self-Development – The initiative assists young people in self-development, building resilience, and fostering a positive mindset that keeps them engaged in both sports and education. In doing so, the programme directly contributes to achieving Goal 2030 of the Action Plan 2025, which seeks to use schools as hubs for public health and poverty reduction interventions.

“Learning cannot happen if learners are struggling physically or emotionally,” Mr. Sibeko explains. “Our coaches, qualified teachers, and social workers will work together to ensure young people receive the support they need to thrive in the classroom and on the field.” By referring youth to appropriate community services such as guidance counsellors, social workers, or healthcare facilities, GYV helps maximize outcomes in access, retention, and achievement.

GYV Sports and Education is a shared responsibility between the departments of Sports, Arts, Culture & Recreation, Basic Education, and Health. Beneficiaries are encouraged to view the programme as a key pillar of care and support for sporting and learning in townships.

“The vision of the GYV Sports and Education Project is that the educational rights of vulnerable children in South Africa are realised through schools becoming inclusive centres of learning, care, and support,” says Mr. Sibeko. “We are mainstreaming care and support for all youths within schools and communities to address barriers to sports and education for children in South Africa.”

The GYV Sports and Education Programme covers all sporting codes for boys, girls, and even elderly participants — from grassroots development to professional levels. The project will begin in Tembisa and expand to other townships across all nine provinces. With sports coaches for various codes, qualified teachers, and social workers, GYV is poised to make the Vision 2030 Action Plan a reality.

Centurion’s Own Mrs. Thabile Mabele Shines as Mrs. Township South Africa Semi-Finalist

At 48 years old, Mrs. Thabile Mabele is living proof that it is never too late to pursue your passions. Recently sashed as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Mrs. Township South Africa (MTSA) 2025, she is proudly representing Centurion on her journey to becoming a finalist.

For Mrs. Mabele, pageantry is more than just glamour and crowns; it is about finding purpose and embracing identity. “Mrs. Township South Africa is all about redefining and cementing your identity, and that sealed my decision to enter this pageant,” she shares. “At this stage of my life, I wanted to take a bold step of faith and celebrate my womanhood, while inspiring others to do the same.”

The power of the sash is not lost on her. To Mrs. Mabele, wearing it is a symbol of honour, responsibility, and sisterhood. Being sashed represents the recognition of her journey, her voice, and her role as a township ambassador. “It is not just fabric across your shoulder—it is a reminder that you are chosen, seen, and entrusted with representing your community,” she says.

One of the most beautiful aspects of MTSA, according to Mrs. Mabele, is the sisterhood it fosters among women from diverse backgrounds. “This platform brings us together, creating friendships and bonds that go beyond competition. It is about building each other up, not tearing each other down.”

As a proud wife and mother to a beautiful daughter, Mrs. Mabele’s story is a testimony that age is no barrier to chasing dreams. Her journey with MTSA is about more than personal achievement; it is about giving Centurion representation on a national stage and inspiring other women to step into their power. “As semi-finalists, we represent our townships with pride. I carry Centurion with me, and I want to show that purpose and passion have no age limit,” she reflects.

Mrs. Mabele is calling for community support as she continues on this remarkable journey. She invites everyone to follow her story, her advocacy, and her progress on Instagram via her handle .

With the sash across her shoulder and her eyes set on the crown, Mrs. Thabile Mabele is more than a contestant—she is a symbol of hope, courage, and timeless beauty.

Xubeni Annual Heritage Day Sports & Cultural Festival – 24 September 2025

A Day of Unity, Sport and Celebration at Xubeni Sports Field

The Xubeni Sports Field came alive on 24 September 2025 as hundreds of residents from Xubeni, Ecaleni Section and surrounding areas converged for the Annual Xubeni Heritage Day Celebrations. This year’s event was a powerful combination of competitive sport, cultural pride and family-friendly fun.

With Top 4 Soccer, Top 4 Netball, live entertainment, children’s jumping castles and stalls for local vendors, the atmosphere reflected exactly what Heritage Day in South Africa is meant to be: a vibrant showcase of who we are as communities and what we can achieve when we come together.

The Meaning of Heritage Day in South Africa

Every year on 24 September, South Africans pause to recognise Heritage Day, a public holiday enshrined in our democracy. It is a day set aside to celebrate the rich diversity of our nation’s cultures, languages, histories and traditions. Heritage Day reminds us that South Africa’s strength lies in its unity in diversity – the idea that, even though we come from different backgrounds, our combined heritage is what makes us unique.

This year’s celebration at Xubeni Sports Field echoed that national spirit. Beyond the competitions and entertainment, the event symbolised the value of remembering where we come from and shaping where we want to go as a community.

Community leader and CPF member Bongani Chilenge, who extended the invitation to SA Rainbow News Media, put it simply:

> “When we gather like this, we are not just playing sport. We are investing in our youth, showcasing our talent and keeping our traditions alive. That is what Heritage Day means for us.”

Netball Finals: Shining Stars vs. Xubeni Ladies

The netball court was a hive of energy as Shining Stars met Xubeni Ladies in the Top 4 final. After a closely contested match, Shining Stars edged ahead with a 15–13 victory, clinching the Top 4 title.

For their triumph, Shining Stars secured a brand-new kit (jerseys), a visible reward for their commitment and skill. The Xubeni Ladies, as gallant runners-up, received medals recognising their hard work and sportsmanship.

The cheering from the stands, especially from young girls watching their local heroes, spoke volumes about the importance of platforms like this: they inspire the next generation of female athletes, reminding them that discipline, teamwork and dedication pay off.

Soccer Finals: Xubeni Aces vs. Destroyers FC

On the soccer pitch, fans were treated to a high-quality final between Xubeni Aces FC and Destroyers FC. Xubeni Aces dominated from the start, recording a decisive 3–0 victory to lift the Top 4 trophy.

Goal scorers for Xubeni Aces were Tshepo (first goal), General Shaun Mnisi (second goal) and Thato Sipato (third goal). Their goalkeeper, affectionately known as Blackberry, produced a spectacular penalty save to keep a clean sheet, further igniting the crowd.

The standout star of the tournament was Thato Makitla, named Player of the Tournament for his consistency, leadership and flair throughout the competition.

Celebrating Legacy: X-Footballers Return to the Pitch

One of the most memorable moments of the day came when former footballers from the community – the “Kasi Gentlemen” – returned to the field. They played an exhibition match that delighted the crowd and reminded everyone of the deep football heritage that exists in Xubeni.

This was more than nostalgia; it was a visible link between the past and present. Older players demonstrated to the youth that sport is not only about winning but about discipline, respect and unity. For many in attendance, especially young people, it was an inspiring example of intergenerational collaboration.

More Than Sport: Vendors, Families and Fun

The festival also created economic opportunities. Local vendors set up stalls selling food, crafts and refreshments, adding to the festive atmosphere and supporting small businesses.

Children were entertained by a jumping castle, while families relaxed under gazebos, enjoying live performances and DJ sets between matches. This blend of sport, entertainment and community commerce showcased how heritage celebrations can also stimulate local economic activity.

The Power of Coming Together

Events like the Xubeni Heritage Day are more than just a day out. They are a vital investment in social cohesion. When community members gather in one space – regardless of age, gender or background – trust is built, networks are formed and hope is renewed.

This year’s celebration demonstrated the vibrancy of Xubeni’s youth. Both on and off the field, young people showed leadership, creativity and energy. These qualities, if nurtured and given exposure to greater opportunities, can open doors far beyond the sports field.

Heritage Day thus becomes a springboard for broader development. It encourages communities to think about mentorship, training, skills development and partnerships that can help youth channel their talent into sustainable futures.

A Call to Action for Xubeni

The success of this year’s Heritage Day festival is a testament to what Xubeni can achieve together. But such platforms only thrive if the whole community continues to support them.

Residents, leaders, businesses and organisations are urged to join hands to keep this annual celebration alive. By contributing time, resources or expertise, everyone can help make next year’s festival even bigger and more impactful.

As SA Rainbow News Media observed and documented the day, one theme stood out clearly: unity. In a time when many communities face social and economic pressures, events like these offer a beacon of hope and a reminder that “together we rise.”

Closing Thoughts

The 2025 Xubeni Heritage Day Sports & Cultural Festival will be remembered not just for its thrilling finals or colourful stalls, but for its deeper message: heritage is not only about the past we inherit, but about the future we build.

If the passion and teamwork on display this year are any indication, the Xubeni community is well on its way to building a legacy of unity, opportunity and pride for generations to come.

🇿🇦 “SA Rainbow News Media: One of life’s toughest lessons is learned in hospital wards. 🏥💙
When someone is battling for their life, some friends and even family vanish — no visits, no calls, no support. It hurts, but it also reveals the truth about who genuinely cares.

Let’s choose to be different. Don’t wait for the funeral to show up. Show up while they’re still fighting. A simple visit, a message, or a prayer can give hope that medicine can’t. 💛🙏
