A 23-year-old male accused, known as Mukhethwa Masindi from Makatu Village was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Dzanani Regional Court.
This followed after the Court heard that on 23 November 2019 at around 16:00 at Makatu Village a then 13-year-old girl was walking past a soccer field when she and her friend met the accused. He pulled the victim to a nearby bush and her friend ran away and he further r***d her. The 13-year-old girl went home and reported the matter to her sister who then reported the matter to the police at Siloam.
The accused was arrested the following day on 24 November 2019. The case was transferred to Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the arresting officers and the Investigator, Sergeant Phumodzo Nemafhohoni for conducting a thorough investigation which led to this heavy sentence against this ra**st.
