HOLIDAYMAKERS WARNED ABOUT RISK OF RABIES IN KZN AND EASTERN CAPE.

A warning to holidaymakers has been issued after a rabies outbreak in coastal areas in KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.

The national department of agriculture said rabies is a zoonotic disease, meaning the infection can be transmitted to people after coming into contact with infected animal.

According to the department's spokesperson Reggie Ngcobo, the rabies virus is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal when it bites, scratches or licks a person.
He said rabies affects the brain and is fatal once a person or animal shows clinical signs such as changes in behaviour and neurological symptoms.

ILLEGAL MINING POSTING DANGER TO COMMUNITY IN BURGERSFORT.

Community members outside Burgersfort in Limpopo are not feeling safe due to open holes from illegal mining in the area.

Illegal chrome mines have left huge holes and trenches in the village, after extracting chrome.

For years, communities in the area have been plagued by illegal chrome mining. Some community members are said to be involved in this illegal activity, with others even employing foreign national to work for them as they claim that this is the only way to put bread on the table for their families.

However, they call on the government to allow them to mine or grant small-scale mining licences.

POVERTY HAS ESCALATED.

Times are tough and the cost off living has escalated beyond the level of the pay cheque. Hundreds of people are finding themselves having to try and cut down on costs.

Transport costs are sometimes unaffordable for many and people resort to hitching at so called hiking spots. Imbo News&Community Affairs managed to chart to a popular hiking spot in Rustenburg, North West after several cases of robbery and r**e of commuters who use lifts in the area were reported.

Four people, including a 15-year-old boy, have been killed while another man was critically injured after a fire broke out at a gun store in Johannesburg on Friday. Emergency medical service ER24 said three men, a woman and a teenage boy were all inside the gun shop when the fire started. It is unclear how the fire started. Seven people were killed in a horrific car crash in Limpopo on Monday.
According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, a Volkswagen Kombi and a Hyundai had a head-on collision on the N1 South. One of the drivers is believed to have lost control of the vehicle and driven into oncoming traffic. Six people were in the sedan whereas the van driver was alone in the vehicle.
This brings the number of people killed on provincial roads to 15 since last Friday. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and reduce their speed. [Photo: arrivealive.co.za]
