SEVERE WEATHER HITS TWEELING: RESIDENTS URGED TO TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS
Tweeling, Free State — 11 August 2026
Tweeling has experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong and damaging winds, with reports that more than five houses and one local establishment have been affected by the severe weather conditions since last night.
The strong winds have reportedly caused damage to properties in parts of the community, leaving some residents dealing with damaged structures and belongings.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported at this stage. The community remains urged to stay alert, however, as the weather conditions may continue to pose a serious risk, particularly to homes with damaged roofs, loose structures and other vulnerable areas.
Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and strong winds and to remain indoors where possible. People should stay away from windows during severe windstorms and avoid standing underneath trees, carports, temporary structures, or anything that could potentially collapse or be blown away.
Those living in houses that have suffered damage should not enter areas that appear structurally unsafe. If roofs, walls, electrical installations or other parts of a property have been damaged, residents should keep a safe distance and seek assistance from the relevant authorities or qualified professionals.
Residents should also secure or bring indoors any loose items such as outdoor furniture, containers, building materials and other objects that could become dangerous during strong winds.

During severe weather, we encourage the Tweeling community to look out for one another. Please check on elderly residents, children, people living alone and families whose homes may have been affected.
If you see a damaged electrical installation or fallen power lines, do not touch them or go near them. Keep other people away from the area and report the danger to the relevant electricity authorities.
Most importantly, please do not take unnecessary risks by going outside to observe or photograph storm damage while strong winds and heavy rain are still occurring.
