BOLOBEDU TODAY | Residents of Rikhotso village in Maake section Ward 04 under the Greater Tzaneen Municipality have gathered at the Eskom offices in Mokwakwaila today on Friday, 05 June 2026, demanding urgent intervention after being without electricity for more than a week.

According to the residents, the power outage began on Thursday, 28 May 2026, when a grader TLB allegedly knocked down an electricity pole, causing power lines to fall and leaving the area without electricity.

Residents reports that the matter was reported to Eskom on the same day the incident occurred. They allege that Eskom informed them that they would attend to the problem on Monday, 01 June 2026. However, residents say that no repairs have been done till today.

The prolonged outage has reportedly resulted in food spoilage and has inconvenienced the affected households. The residents further alleges that an elderly man fell into a fire while preparing food due to lack of electricity and they are calling on Eskom to urgently repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity to the community due to being frustrated by the delay.

The Eskom officials at Mokwakwaila offices together with residents managed to reach an agreement, whereby Eskom reportedly committed to attending to the matter within the next 12 hours. Residents have welcomed the assurance and expressed hope that electricity will be restored as soon as possible.
