150 ILLEGAL MINERS TRAPPED IN ABANDONED MINE IN SABIE
The incident came to light on Tuesday, 03 December 2024, when a security patrol by members of the K9 Unit stumbled upon four men fleeing from the area. The individuals, suspected to be illegal miners, revealed that they and others had been trapped in the mine.Following their disclosure, Operation Vala Umgodi, a task force focused on combating illegal mining, was immediately mobilized. Two foreign nationals, aged 23 and 24, along with four South African nationals, were successfully rescued.
