UPDATE ON KLOOF EXPLOSIONS

The truck carrying a large quantity of highy flammable gas cylinders which appeared to have lost control and burst into flames as it was traveling down Magoebaskloof this morning, has been extinguished.

Emergency services are still at the scene and although most of the wreckage has been cleared and the majority of the consequential fire in the surrounding forest extinguished, the pass remains closed.

We have also had reports that the fire has reached the property of the Warriors Basecamp and they are fighting to prevent it from reaching the barn on the property.

We are not certain what happened exactly, but we have spoken to a source at the scene.

The accident occurred at around 01:00 this morning on the R71 Magoebaskloof pass.

Allegedly the truck belongs to a Tzaneen-based company.

It is reported that as it was heading towards Tzaneen, the vehicle's breaks failed and it crashed through the barrier just above the Magoebaskloof Ruskamp.

The driver ran for safety as the truck's cargo set alight and the gas bottles started exploding.

We cannot at this stage confirm whether other vehicles were involved in the crash or whether there were any casualties.

We will keep you updated as new information is made available.

The mighty Reds fought through the elimination rounds of the tournament which started yesterday, to eventually beat Tom Naude in the Semi-Finals with a score of 15-14 to face PHS for the ultimate crown.

The final score was 18-17 in the home team's favour.
