Frankfurt Writer's Challenge Competition Rules
1. The competition is open to all South African citizens and residents. Submissions can be in Afrikaans or English.
2. The competition has three (3) divisions: poetry, short shories, and memoirs/anecdotes.
3. Guidelines for poetry: we seek different styles of poetry: limerick (5-line humurous poem), sonnet (14-lines), free form (maximum of 24 lines). One poem per page; each new entry must start on a new page. Each page
must begin with genre (i.e. Poem: Limerick, or Short Story), then title and author's name.
4. Guidelines for short stories: short stories can have any theme but must be family-friendly (no vulgarity, swearing or blasphemy). Word count to not exceed 2500 words.
5. Guidelines for memoir/anecdotes: These are true stories and thus the theme is not specified but must be family-friendly. Anecdotes must be less than 750 words. Memoir to be less than 2000.
6. Shorter words counts than those specified will not be penalised but longer word counts will be disqualified.
7. Writer's may submit as many entries as they desire at an entry fee of R100.00 per entry. The entry fee must to paid by EFT to Wild Sunshine Media into FNB cheque account 62855188168 (Baywest Mall, branch code 210828), with reference: “FWC/[your name and surname].” Email entry and proof of payment to
[email protected]. Alternatively, email entry and send proof of payment via sms to cell nr. 0815670640.
8. All submissions must be previously unpublished work and the author must own the copyright.
9. Each entry must include a profile pic and short bio of the author in case their entry is selected for the anthology. Minors must have parental consent to participate. No pen names are allowed.
10. Submissions open on 18 August and close on Sunday, 18 September 2022.
11. Prizes: A selection of the best work in each category will be published in an Anthology to be laundhed at the Frankfurt Book Fair (October 2022). The winner in each categeroy (Poetry, Short Story, Memoir/Anecdote) will
receive a trophy and copy of the anthology. All other writer's published will receive a certificate via email. Copies of the anthology will be available for purchase by all other participants. The overall winner will receive a
publishing package up to the value of R12,000 with Wild Sunshine Media.
12. The Judges Panel is chaired by Prof. Adelle Gascoyne of Wild Sunshine Media. The Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into about the competition.
