Good morning ladies and gentlemen. We cordially invite you to our Writers' Club event, where Music & Poetry meet.

Music has been part of all societies
around the globe to what it seems to be the beginning of time. It is believed that music was originated in Africa by tribes that used various materials to create what we know today as instruments to produce sounds. It became an essential part of every culture and influenced by it and all aspects of life – religion, climate, economic and social factors, customs.

Poetry, as a form of rhythmic language that intends to evoke meaning, was known before written texts and was used to remember laws, family history, events. To remember and not forget, some phrases were repeated and it also began in Africa -as "Imbongi" meaning poet. The tone of voice was rhythmic. It is, perhaps, then when poetry and music met.

The relationship between music and poetry is so strong that has survived the ages. It has been challenged, questioned, scrutinized but is still alive today to prove that some bonds are hard to break.

While each is an autonomous form of art, music, and poetry work well together. Yes, there's a close connection between many forms of art – dancing, painting, performing, architecture, sculpture. They are all forms of expression. But there's something unique that connects poetry and music, and the interesting part is that it does so for centuries.

So there you have it.

Grand rising to all this morning.
We're proud to let you know that next month, June 29th, we'll be bringing our very own "Artist Authors",Theophilus De Bruin & II at the Uitenhage Town Hall.

Here many will assume by “artist” we mean a visual artist, such as a painter or sketcher. Well, novels and paintings are both art, both novelists and painters are artists, not to forget to mention that rappers are painters too. Painters that paint vivid pictures with words. However, rappers fall under musicians and musicians are known to be aural artists. For example, dancers are movement artists, chefs are culinary artists. They all use the senses to engage and create new experiences. They practice different mediums of art. They are all artists just like these two gentlemen right here who'll be bringing Uitenhage the best of both worlds at a writer's club event.

Visual art and literary art engage the senses and provoke thought in ways so different, they defy comparison. It’s pointless to argue which is more imaginative. How does one measure imagination? Is it in weight? In calories? It’s not as if we know drawing a triangle takes three imaginations and writing the word “triangle” takes four. And for the record, there is no point in arguing which is better, either. We need visual art and we need literary art, just as we need aural art and culinary art, arguing which is “better” is like arguing whether oxygen or water is better. We need them both. Then you could say “we need oxygen more because we’ll die faster without it,” and counter argue that we prolong our misery if we thirst to death, so water is more important but we have both. We don’t need to choose.

Visual art and literary art are different, though, and it is useful to understand how. Visual art can be consumed rapidly. We can take the whole scene in and immediately understand what is going on, where words have to be interpreted through the filters of symbols and language before they can be understood. The process is slower, it demands more of the consumer. However, words can evoke more than the sense of sight.

As we enter 2025 in the third month of the year. Greetings ladies & gentlemen and happy new year's, we hope your Xmas was Merry. We got two of our fellow artists working on something bigger than them.

Villyn and I.I got something special for y'all this year and they're planning on doing a duo event this year June (date yet to be confirmed) where they'll be launching their classic masterpieces, a book by Theophilus De Bruin titled "Fragments of a Boundless Soul" and a mixtape CD by I.I. titled "Broken Heart And Da Trapped Soul".

BIOGRAPHIES:

-Villyn's Bio'

Theophilus De Bruin professionally known as Villyn, was born on November 15th in South Africa. A multi-talented rapper, emcee, poet, and songwriter, Villyn is a creative force whose work cannot be confined to a single label. His artistry is defined by his mastery of bars, punchlines, metaphors, quadrupled entendres, and multi-syllabic rhyming, which together paint vivid and thought-provoking pictures with words. Raised in an era where poetry is valued no matter the poet's background, Villyn views poets as prophets—believing that his own vision is shaped by the giants he has stood on.

Villyn’s journey began in 2005, when, as a young child, he heard the music of Tupac Shakur for the first time and fell in love with rap. Influenced by legendary figures like Nas, Common, and Tupac, he was drawn to the art of emceeing, believing that rap is not just a talent but a craft that requires deep knowledge. As he grew, Villyn realized that emcees and poets must constantly expand their vocabulary and understanding of the world. A true student of the culture, he has always sought to understand the roots of Hip Hop and the powerful tradition of Rhythm and Poetry.

From his humble beginnings in Uitenhage, Villyn witnessed Hip Hop’s evolution from a neighborhood dream to a global phenomenon. This transformation ignited his drive to become a poet-emcee who not only creates art but also inspires and influences the next generation. In 2022, Villyn was nominated for Best Hip Hop Artist at the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards, further solidifying his place in the South African Hip Hop scene.

Late last year, 2024 on the 6th of December, Villyn expanded his craft beyond music and written an anthology, abstracted from his recent work, the Destiny LP. Through his poetry, he continues to inspire the world to be greater than himself, using the power of words to guide others toward self-realization and creative expression. Today, Theophilus De Bruin, known as Villyn, stands as a testament to the enduring power of Hip Hop, poetry, and the art of self-expression.

-I.I's Bio':
Masixole Bangela, professionally known as I.I. and he is an artist of many talents, musically and traditionally. He has got worthy bars and singing contemporary Afro-Soul lyrics that further solidifies his artistry in the RAP game because he's Hip Hop before a musician with that said he RAPs and I sings as an artist that he is.

Much like how D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Maxwell’s commercial success in the 90’s popularized Neo Soul —a non-traditional 1970’s influenced R&B— He has his own sugar and spice and everything nice to commercialize his new sound in modern rhythm and blues. Explicit lyrical content, southern inspired trap beats and the ability to carry a note, these are the ingredients that form Trap Soul music, and so far, it has proven to be viable.

He's also blessed abundantly with such a great listening skill when it comes to making music, he selects only the best quality music for his audience in respect of his art.

Please anticipate his upcoming project titled the "Broken Hearts And Da Trapped Soul", a Trap Soul mixtape. Here's a link below to the single abstracted from the project and it's titled SACRIFICE Ft. Y.O.U. to give you a bit of some taste of our artist's style of music.

Fragments of a Boundless Soul is a profound and raw poetry collection by Theophilus De Bruin (also known as Villyn), where every line echoes with the rhythm of life’s deepest emotions. From the quietest moments of self-reflection to the explosive power of love and pain, this collection explores the human experience in all its complexity. De Bruin’s words are a journey through the struggles of heartbreak, the triumphs of personal growth, and the quiet resilience that lives within us all.

With themes of love, loss, self-discovery, and the beauty of imperfection, Fragments of a Boundless Soul offers a window into the heart and mind of an artist who understands the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability. Through poignant reflections on destiny, faith, and the pursuit of happiness, this book invites readers to embrace their own scars and rise from their toughest times.

This collection isn’t just poetry; it’s a call to embrace one’s own journey, to heal through the power of words, and to honor the fragments of our soul that make us whole. De Bruin’s voice is bold, tender, and unflinching—perfect for those seeking a raw, honest exploration of life’s most pressing emotions.
