PARK RYNIE'S COACH CLINTON UP FOR NATIONAL AWARD
Cricket coach Clinton Moodley has been recognised for his three decades of service and dedication to developing the next generation of cricketers.
As the founder of the Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA), he feels honoured to be a nominee in the 2025 Cricket South Africa Awards. Moodley (representing KZN Coastal) will be vying for the KFC Bucket Loads of Good Award, which celebrates the heart of those who go above and beyond to make a lasting impact on their communities.
CMCA is well-known in KZN as a top coaching academy in terms of playing standards, talent development and governance.
“We aim to provide an environment for cricket participation, enjoyment, learning and success,” said Moodley.
“We want to promote sportsmanship and excellence on the field and in the wider community, and to show leadership through the example of our management committee, coaches and captains.”
The academy has also done a lot of work with rural schools, such as in Amandawe, and introduced development programmes. Besides cricket, CMCA has helped mold young minds through its reading and art programmes. CMCA was previously known as PRCC (Park Rynie Cricket Club), and 1994 marked the start of the journey.
Locals Luke Moonsamy (now deceased) and Victor Naidoo initially approached Moodley to launch the Bakers Mini-Cricket Programme at St. Francis Primary School. After much success, Moodley became a district's mini-cricket coordinator and featured regularly at the festivals and conferences. The mini-cricket programme gave birth to PRCC.
Several local coaches then got the Park Rynie lads ready to participate in league cricket in Umzinto. Park Rynie started with a young side, which grew in confidence and eventually won the Umzinto League. PRCC provided young cricketers with opportunities to play and coach throughout the country.
When COVID-19 happened, cricket coaching was halted. And after the ban on contact sports was lifted, Moodley established a partnership with Scottburgh Country Club and Chatsworth United. The coaching program was back in full swing once again, and CMCA was established.
After aiding a number of talented individuals and giving back to communities, locals are holding thumbs for Coach Clinton to bring home this prestigious award. The awards function will be held on July 31 this week.
