50TH ANNIVESSARY OF THE NATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL COINCIDING WITH THE 30 YEARS OF THE DEMOCRATIC DISPENSATION IN SOUTH AFRICA
IF JAZZ IS THE FOOD OF LOVE
That is the title of the perfomance i attended midday the 27th june 2024 @ the Thomas Pringle where the repertoire of the band led by Mr Mava Gqeba rendered superb tunes by other American vocalists and local artis'classical songs like Ringo's 'ndiyagodola'.
It became quite emotional when they rendered D'Angelo's ,Roberta Flack's and Goerge Benson's song 'Feel like 'making love'-.
The audience responded to that joyfully, and mixed with emotional appeal. Mava's voice is multi-disciplined as one may not distinguish if the song was sung by a woman in some tunes where we know it is a woman's song or a man because the voice of this man changes the scene completely,-meaning that it seems the music he renders feels like the 'Cream of Music'.
It really felt like the music indeed is the food of love ,this is the beffiting title of the show.
Other tunes which brought the house on an responsive mood by clapping their hands along with the tunes, some members of the audience sang as well.
There are other tunes he rendered as a tribute to one of his favourite South African musicians whose song was 'a fairy=tale' by Liquideep which brought the audience on a tapping and dancing moves, the Thomas Pringle hall was even not so full but fairly an audience was enjoying and at least attended to half capacity of the venue.
These musicians most of them studied music at the University of Fort-Hare-Mava the vocalist and leader who IS based in East=London BUT A CAPETONIAN BY ORIGINAL RESIDENCE AND BIRTH, H is backed by a pianist who happened to met in University,by the name of Phelelani, and a bassit also from the same university called OB and another keyboard player who is Thami Dlamini.
