[BREAKING] Johan Marais (66), former apartheid police officer, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the 1987 murder of COSAS activist Caiphus Nyoka.

Caiphus Nyoka was 18 when he died and was a matric student.

He was shot 12-times on the head, chest and face.

In his guilty plea, Johan Marais said he shot Nyoka 4-times while his colleagues (who have pending cases) shot him more times.

⚠️CITY IMPLEMENTS LOAD REDUCTION IN DAVEYTON

The City resolved to implement load reduction in and surrounding areas. This is due to recurring incidents of overloading of the grid supplying the area.

The load reduction schedule started today and runs from 17h30 to 20h30 until Monday, 14 July 2025.

The load reduction process aims to address the existing load constraints on the 33kV network at the Daveyton substation, while work to commission an additional 33kV feeder will commence soon to improve load distribution.

Customers are advised to spare an additional 30 minutes to allow for switching activities.
