LAND CLAIM ACT 1913: The Department of Agriculture, Land Affairs, and Rural Development recently visited the Mantsopa Local Municipality community for a briefing session regarding land claims made between 1994 and 1998.
The claims made during the period of 1994 to 1998 have been mostly settled, with only 8 beneficiaries awaiting payment. The collaborative effort of the departments is diligently addressing the outstanding payments, which will be completed shortly. Upon completion, the joint department will submit the payment report to the M.E.C., who will then forward the report to the High Court of South Africa for approval to proceed with the payment of claims from 2014 to 2016.
Land Affairs officials have advised claimants to keep their acknowledgment receipts safe, as these documents are crucial. They have also assured that the claims are securely stored in the department's safe room. Once authorized by the court, the department will make announcements via community radio stations, TV, and local municipalities. The payment process for claims from 2014 to 2026 will commence promptly.
Land Affairs has highlighted challenges they are facing, including incomplete required documents, family tree discrepancies, late submission of members' death certificates, and emphasized that this outreach initiative is driven by the joint department.
In closing, the department expresses gratitude to the Mantsopa Local Municipality community for their significant turnout at the briefing session.
