OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR EMPOWERS THE YOUTH
MADIBENG MUNICIPALITY: As part of the municipality's broader strategy to link the youth with opportunities in the mining and economic development sectors, the Office of the Executive Mayor on Friday, 27 June 2025, hosted a youth engagement session with stakeholders from the said sectors at Letlhabile Community Hall. This initiative, which is also driven by the urgent need to address the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty, and inequality, brought together critical stakeholders to interact directly with the youth. The invited mining houses could not honour the invitation; however, government departments that were in attendance offered valuable insights on services and support programmes that they offer. The departments included the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, the Department of Employment & Labour, Social Development, the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, SEDFA, as well as the NYDA. In addressing the youth, Executive Mayor Cllr. Douglas Maimane emphasized the need to confront the challenges that continue to marginalize young people from the mainstream economy. "This is not just a meeting, but a commitment to action. Our young people are faced with the harsh realities of joblessness, underdevelopment, and exclusion. As government and stakeholders, we must respond with practical intervention," said the executive mayor. The executive mayor further indicated that the municipality is committed to working with both the public and private sectors, including all mining houses in Madibeng, to build inclusive and sustainable economic pathways for the youth of Madibeng.
