On 9 August, we remember the footsteps of South African women who stood together to change the status quo, not with fear, but with love, empathy, and unshakable resolve. Our history proves that when women unite, nations transform. Today, women lead in boardrooms, communities, and movements, yet the responsibility of this power calls for brilliance, compassion, and thought leadership. In a changing world where challenges persist, we must walk boldly in the legacy of those before us, creating opportunity where there is none, protecting the vulnerable, and shaping a future where every race, creed, and culture thrives together. Above all, we must lead with love, for it is love that builds the South Africa we dream of.

Today we honour a man who stood for justice, truth, dignity, and the power of collective freedom, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

Madiba reminded us that "freedom is meaningless if people cannot put food in their stomachs, if they cannot have shelter, if illiteracy and disease continue to dog them." His legacy was not just in the fight for political freedom, but in his unwavering commitment to ethical leadership, accountability, and compassion.

As South Africa grapples with a crisis of integrity, where some of our own leaders betray the very principles Mandela embodied, let us not stay silent. Let Mandela Day reignite our responsibility to speak truth to power, to call out injustice, and to uphold the vision of a free and fair South Africa. 🇿🇦

On this day in 1976, the youth took to the streets and took the reins of their future rewriting the story of a generation and reshaping the course of South African history. Their courage reminds us that real change begins when young voices refuse to be silenced. In 2025, their legacy calls louder than ever. The amplification of youth voices is not just important, it’s essential. For our communities. For our workplaces. For our country. For the world. ✊🏾

Today, on Workers’ Day, we salute the backbone of our nation, the tireless men and women whose labour keeps South Africa’s engines running. As we face policies that threaten livelihoods and widen inequality, we stand ever firmer in the fight for economic justice. This day isn’t just about rest; it’s about recognition, rights, and respect. To every writer, teacher, nurse, miner, driver, shop assistant and artisan: your skills, sweat and sacrifice forge our future. Let us honour your dignity by demanding fair wages, stable livelihoods and policies that uplift, not burden, the working class. United, we will turn today’s appreciation into tomorrow’s progress. 🇿🇦✊🏾

Today, we honour the brave hearts who marched, sang and stood firm so that every South African, regardless of skin, zip code or wallet, could taste true freedom. Freedom Day isn’t just a date on the calendar; it’s a living reminder that liberty was wrested from oppression through courage, unity and an unshakeable belief in access and progress. Let us remember why the fight began: to unlock doors to education, justice, health and dignity for all. And let us recommit to tearing down the walls, visible and invisible, that still hold us back so that every dream can take flight. Happy Freedom Day, South Mzansi! 🇿🇦✊🏾

World Book and Copyright Day is more than a celebration of pages and print, it's a call to honour the voices behind the words. Today, we celebrate literature that reflects the true palettes of our people's stories painted in every shade of our lived experience, culture, history, and dreams.
Books have the power to shape worlds, shift perspectives, and hold space for truths often left unheard. Let’s continue to uplift stories told authentically, by those who live them and protect their right to tell them.
Happy writing, World! 🌍📚✨
