President Cyril Ramaphosa who is the Northern Cape today says innovative ways must be found to fund high impact infrastructure projects like the Boegoebaai Port and Rail facility along with a green hydrogen Special Economic Zone among other things. Ramaphosa says policy might need to be revised to attract potential investors.

"Now with respect on infrastructure development, we will need to find innovative ways to support high impact projects. We will also need to find creative funding mechanisms for major projects we need to embark upon. For instance to Boegoebaai Harbour project, that is a project that will turn the fortunes of our province around. We need an urgent relook, at the current delivery model to be able deal with regulator approval and investment intervention," said Ramaphosa.

The woman who was reported missing after being discharged from the Kimberley Mental Hospital without her mother's consent, has been found unharmed. Karabo Vilakazi's mother reported her missing last month, she was found by the police at her friend's house in Green Point. A report by the Health Department says Vilakazi was discharged at her own request. The hospital's CEO Albert Links elaborates.

"The Northern Cape department of health hereby confirms that Ms. Karabo Vilakazi was indeed admitted at the Northern Cape mental health hospital, on 03 June 2025. It is worth mentioning that the clinical interventions were successful until she was discharged on 23 June 2025. notwithstanding the fact that she is an adult mental health care user, based on her clinical condition at discharge classified as a voluntary user," said Links.

Another by-election is underway at ward 1 in Sol Plaatje Municipality. The vacancy in the ward was created by the resignation of a Patriotic Alliance (PA) councillor. Sol Plaatje Municipality is a hung council and is currently being governed through a coalition between the ANC and the Good Party.

A Kimberley mother of a 22-year-old woman with mental illness, has accused the Kimberley Mental Hospital of negligence, after her daughter was discharged from the facility without her family being informed. The woman says her daughter, who was discharged last month, has not been seen since leaving the hospital and officials at the facility cannot account for her whereabouts. The desperate woman is demanding answers and help with finding her now missing daughter.

Police in the Northern Cape have arrested a man over the weekend for possession of illegal fi****ms and ammunition at a farm between Kimberley and Windsorton. In an unrelated incident police also arrested a Chinese national for corruption. This after a sting operation was executed at a bottle store in Kimberley, where information was received that a Chinese national allegedly purchased a docket for an undisclosed amount of money. Police spokesperson, Cherelle Ehlers says the docket was allegedly found on the premises.

"Investigators executed a search warrant on the farm between Kimberley and Windsorton. Information received was operationalised, and the farm premises was raided where alleged unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition were recovered. The farm owner failed to provide relevant documentation regarding the ownership of the fi****ms and was subsequently arrested. Additionally, on the same day at approximately 15:00 a sting operation was executed at a bottle store in Kimberley after intelligence information was received that a Chinese national allegedly purchased a docket for an undisclosed amount of money," said Ehlers.

Northern Cape municipalities will come under scrutiny this week, with President Cyril Ramaphosa due for a visit to the province to do oversight. Several municipalities in the province are struggling to deliver services to its citizens. Only two municipalities received clean audits in the last financial year and many are struggling to collect revenue and to pay suppliers. As part of celebrating International Mandela Day, the South African Army returned to the Seochoareng Old Age Home in Kimberley for a third year in a row to help with the upkeep of the place. Kimberley police in the Northern Cape are investigating an inquest after a 14-year-old boy allegedly drowned in Phuthanang section today. The boy drowned at an open ditch allegedly made by the construction company which is busy fixing the pipes. The deceased was apparently swimming with his friend during the incident. Provincial spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers elaborates.

"It believed that the deceased and a friend were at the Gogga pump in Phuthanang. The deceased went swimming and reportedly drowned. his friend went to call for help when the deceased failed to resurface. investigations are ongoing," said Ehlers.
