OFFICIAL UPDATE
06 February 2025 🦋
I am HOME!
I truly valued my time at the rehab facility. My overall physical abilities improved and are still improving with daily physiotherapy, and the Occupational Therapist also helped me with upper body strengthening exercises, how to make a cup of coffee, how to get to the toilet, or into a car, etc.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the fund established by “Team Alison”, and will be forever grateful to them, and those of you who kindly and generously contributed to cover my medical expenses and to ensure a roof over my head. It allowed me to concentrate solely on my rehabilitation and recouperation.
Physiotherapy is not easy – you start off feeling useless and unable to do the simplest of things. Just being able to stand up from a sitting position was a wonderful milestone.
In preparation for me being discharged; I was allowed a short outing. It was so nice to go for a drive and see different scenery, but my double vision made me feel a bit carsick, so the next weekend we chose to spend my outing at home. What an extraordinary feeling to go home for the first time in over 2 months! Our dogs and cat were so happy to see me and I them. The day at home was wonderful – my sons made a braai (barbecue) and they also neatened my short hair.
The rehabilitation facility was very thorough in their care and did a home visit before I was discharged. In this way, the Occupational Therapist was able to advise of loose rugs that should be taken up as they presented a tripping hazard. She also advised on where hand rails should be installed in the shower.
These preparations were achieved quickly, with the consent of my wonderful landlord and a well-wisher who surprised me by donating his time and expertise to fit the hand rails. I was given the green light to GO HOME – and before Christmas too! I was so excited.
I am continuing my healing at home – my sons and my mother have been wonderful in caring for me and doing EVERYTHING for me. They are also helping me with exercises daily so that my physical improvements can continue. I remain grateful for the support of my brother, Neale, and his family.
I am slowly sifting through messages on social media and my phone – and am overwhelmed with the amount of love and care and concern that has poured in my/our direction. Your prayers and thoughts have reached me and have helped me to stay strong when it was so hard at times.
Thank you – and please don’t stop. I appreciate all the love and support so much. I am still needing to go for medical checkups so please continue prayers that these are all favourable. Unfortunately, I am back in hospital (hopefully very temporarily) as I have developed another small brain bleed. Hoping to update you soon with news that I am back home.
And yes, regarding the news about you know who going back to prison. That’s a whole different update. Let me just get better again first. But boy, is this BIG. Speak soon.
Alison.
