Road crashes claim 12 lives in 48 hours
MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG - Cases of culpable homicide is being investigated after various accidents occurred on North West roads and 12 lives were lost between Friday, 11 and Sunday, 13 July.
On Friday, one life was lost on the N14 near Tshing in Ventersdorp. On Saturday, 12 July, there was a hit and run on the N12 outside Potchefstroom towards Stilfontein, which claimed one life.
Still on Friday evening at around 18:00 on the N4 near Groot Marico, a head-on collision involving four vehicles claimed five lives.
Reports indicated that two delivery vehicles belonging to the same company were driving towards Swartruggens from Groot Marico. The one vehicle was towing the other and they were allegedly overtaking on the barrier line and collided with two oncoming vehicles. Four women and one man succumbed to their injuries.
The occupants of the two vehicles that were towing each other, three Zimbabwean nationals and one Malawian, were taken to the hospital with injuries.
On Sunday evening at around 19:00 two vehicles collided head-on on N18 approximately 40 km south of Mahikeng towards Setlagole. A light sedan with three occupants driving towards Setlagole was overtaking and collided with an oncoming light delivery vehicle with one occupant. All four, three men and one woman, died at scene of the crash.
Just a little further up near Madiba a Makgabana village, a vehicle driving towards Mafikeng hit a stray cow. A vehicle coming from behind, drove over the cow and three occupants sustained serious injuries. A child travelling with them unfortunately died at the scene of the accident.
The MEC responsible for the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Wessels Morweng, has sent a message of condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

BEWARE OF RISING CAR THEFT AT MEGA CITY, MAHIKENG.

Car theft incidents are on the rise at Mega City Shopping Centre in Mahikeng. In three separate cases, motorists narrowly avoided becoming victims.

According to reports, criminals are using signal-jamming devices to block the vehicle’s remote locking system. Once you leave your car thinking it’s locked, they gain easy access and either steal your vehicle or help themselves to your valuables.

⚠️ SAFETY TIP:

After pressing your vehicle’s remote to lock it, always double-check that all doors are properly locked and the alarm is activated. Never assume the signal went through.
