TRAGIC ACCIDENT ON R101 ROAD CLAIMS SIX LIVES

The MEC of Transport and Community Safety, Mme Susana Mathye, is saddened by the tragic accident that occurred on the R101 road between Mokopane and Mookgophong in Waterberg District. A devastating collision between a heavy motor vehicle and a police van has claimed the lives of six individuals, including one police officer and five awaiting trial inmates.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased. Our thoughts also go to the injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery. We are aware that six individuals were injured, and are receiving medical attention at various health facilities.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and we urge all parties involved to exercise caution and patience as the investigation unfolds. The Department of Transport and Community Safety, we will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that our roads are safe for all users.

We appeal to drivers to exercise caution and adhere to road safety rules to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may we find strength in the face of this tragedy. The accident scene has been cleared and R101 between Mokopane and Mookgophong is open for traffic.
