VAAL TRIANGLE - The Department of Home Affairs is extending operating hours at its offices until July 21. In a statement, the department said the two-hour extension in operating hours will see offices close at 18:00 instead of 16:00 in the afternoon. This is to assist learners who want to apply for and collect their IDs during the school holidays. The department says some offices have also introduced dedicated counters for collections.

MEYERTON - Die Midvaal Plaaslike Munisipaliteit in Meyerton het 'n kennisgewing uitgereik wat huiseienaars met boorgatstelsels inlig dat hulle nou verplig is om toepaslike isolasiekleppe op waterpype te installeer wat direk aan die munisipale watermeter gekoppel is. Die munisipaliteit sê dit volg op talle navrae rakende hoë waterrekeninge. Die installering van 'n isolasieklep is nodig om te verhoed dat munisipale water in die boorgatstelsel vloei, wat kan lei tot abnormaal hoë waterrekeninge en potensiële skade aan boorgatinfrastruktuur. Dit is ook nodig om te verhoed dat boorgatwater terugvloei in die munisipale watervoorsiening, wat 'n risiko van besoedeling van die openbare waterstelsel inhou. Midvaal het gesê inwoners moet daarop let dat die munisipaliteit nie aanspreeklik gehou sal word vir enige skade of finansiële verliese wat voortspruit uit die versuim om toepaslike isolasiekleppe te installeer nie. Die munisipaliteit behou die reg voor om strawwe op te lê aan enige eiendom wat boorgatwater in die munisipale waternetwerk stort.
