The Long Game: Why Brand Building Beats Hard Selling.
That teal billboard cuts through the noise with a truth many marketers resist: most people scrolling past your content right now aren’t reaching for their wallets. And that’s perfectly fine. We’ve become obsessed with conversion rates, click-through percentages, and immediate ROI. Every campaign needs a CTA. Every post should drive action. But this relentless focus on the bottom of the funnel ignores a fundamental reality about how humans actually make buying decisions.

🔸The 95-5 Rule.
Research suggests that at any given moment, only about 5% of your target market is actively ready to buy. The other 95%? They’re living their lives, solving different problems, or simply not in the market yet. Traditional performance marketing fights viciously over that 5%. Brand marketing plays a different game entirely, it plants seeds in the minds of the 95%.

🔸 Mental Availability Is the Real Currency
When someone finally enters buying mode, when the need arises, the budget appears, or the pain point intensifies—they don’t start their research from scratch. They begin with a shortlist already in their head. That shortlist was written months or even years earlier, through accumulated impressions, stories that resonated, and moments where your brand simply showed up and said something meaningful.

🔸The Uncomfortable Truth About Patience
Building this kind of presence requires something our quarterly-driven business culture struggles with: patience. You’re creating content and running campaigns that won’t show up in this month’s metrics. You’re investing in relationships that won’t immediately convert. It feels inefficient. It’s hard to justify in budget meetings. But brands that skip this work find themselves invisible at precisely the moment that matters—when their ideal customer is ready to buy and simply doesn’t think of them.

🔸Both/And, Not Either/Or
This isn’t an argument to abandon performance marketing. Those bottom-funnel tactics are essential for capturing demand. But when they’re your only strategy, you’re constantly fishing in an overfished pond. The most sophisticated marketers play both games simultaneously: performance campaigns to capture today’s demand, and brand-building efforts to create tomorrow’s.

🔸The Question to Ask
Next time you’re planning a campaign, ask yourself: “Am I trying to change someone’s behavior today, or am I trying to change their consideration set for tomorrow?” Both answers are valid. But if everything you’re doing aims at immediate conversion, you’re leaving the vast majority of your future customers to form opinions about your space without you. When they’re finally ready to buy, will your brand be top of mind? Or will they remember someone else who was playing the long game all along?

Today i want to touch on STOP selling products. Start SOLVING problems. I see it everywhere, businesses posting the same thing over and over. "Buy our product!", "Check out our service!", "Special offer today!" And wondering why engagement is low and conversions are even lower.

Your audience doesn't wake up thinking about YOUR product. They wake up thinking about THEIR problems.

The shift that changes everything:
