Community Development Project
The Yao Traditional Monarch has heard the cries of thousands of Malawians who continue to suffer from drought and water shortages. In response to their suffering, His Majesty decided to support communities by providing access to underground water following his traditional coronation.
The Yao Development Foundation successfully found a sponsor to support this important water project on behalf of the Yao Traditional Monarch, His Majesty King Shekh Twaib John Mndala Chimbalanga II.
On October 12, 2026, hundreds of people from Mchooka Village gathered to witness the completion of the project's first public water tap, marking an important milestone in this community development initiative.
Meanwhile, the technical team continues to identify suitable locations with underground water sources before proceeding with further borehole drilling.
This project reflects the commitment of the Yao Traditional Monarch and the Yao Development Foundation to improving access to clean water, promoting community development, and helping vulnerable communities overcome the challenges of drought and water scarcity.
Water is life. Every community deserves access to clean and safe water.

COMMEMORATION OF THE FOUNDER OF THE YAO KINGDOM

150th Anniversary Of the Passing of King Mndala Chimbalanga Ndindi Lupeta
1876–2026

The Traditional Yao King and the majority of Yao chiefs invite the public to commemorate the life, legacy, and historical contributions of the founder of the Yao Kingdom, King Mndala Chimbalanga Ndindi Lupeta, who passed away on 15 December 1876.

A Historic Commemoration

15 December 2026 marks 150 years since the passing of King Mndala Chimbalanga Ndindi Lupeta.
This significant anniversary will honour his memory and celebrate the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Yao Kingdom.
The late King was buried at the site of his former military base, now known as Kwa Chimbalanga, within the jurisdiction of Senior Chief Kambalame, one of his great-great-grandsons.

Commemorative Event

His Majesty, Traditional King Shekh Twaib John Mndala Chimbalanga II, plans to organise a commemorative event in December 2026, in consultation with the majority of Malawi’s Yao chiefs and the Yao Development Foundation.
The confirmed date, venue, and programme will be communicated in due course.
The occasion is expected to welcome thousands of guests, including:
Political leaders
Religious leaders
Traditional authorities
Cultural representatives
Community leaders
Distinguished guests

Celebrating a Shared Legacy

King Mndala Chimbalanga Ndindi Lupeta is regarded by the Royal House as the biological great-great-grandfather of numerous Yao, Chewa, and Ngoni chiefs across Malawi’s Northern, Central, and Southern regions.
His legacy represents an important part of the historical and cultural heritage connecting communities across Malawi.

A Monument To Preserve The Yao Heritage

During the commemoration, His Majesty, Traditional King Shekh Twaib John Mndala Chimbalanga II, intends to announce a project to construct a pyramid monument serving as a monumental tomb for the late King Mndala Chimbalanga Ndindi Lupeta.
The proposed monument will:
Honour the founder of the Yao Kingdom
Preserve Yao history and heritage
Provide a lasting landmark for future generations
Promote cultural identity and unity
Serve as a symbol of remembrance and respect for the ancestors.

LOYAL LEADERS
It is always good to be real in life.
When you speak the truth to help
the victims of atrocities in Africa,
you are doing a good job.
As you think of decolonising
some African countries,
some colonisers may be thinking
of recolonising the entire Africa.
Do not forget to investigate
the reasons behind the assassinations
of many loyal African leaders.
Do not join those African traitors
who do not care about the lives
of millions of Africans.
Remember that some sellouts
were allegedly paid huge amounts of money
to sacrifice their own colleagues.
Some of them were later killed systematically,
while their properties and resources
were seized by powerful interests.
These so-called win-win deals
were sometimes imposed upon
African leaders by foreign powers,
with Africans receiving far less
than the interests gained by outsiders.
When many African leaders
called for changes to these systems
and demanded new partners in business
and greater control over their resources,
conflicts followed in some regions.
Today, parts of Africa continue
to suffer from wars, massacres,
genocides, terrorism and rebellions.
Africa must remember
the sacrifices of its loyal leaders,
learn from its history,
protect its people,
and defend its right
to determine its own future.
