Don't allow your Stockvel Money holders to carry money in hands to share amongst yourselves.
Ask account signatories to use bank apps (EFT, PayShap, FNB, Absa, Capitec, Nedbank, Standard Bank, etc) or mobile money (MTN MoMo etc) to send money directly to members' accounts.
If Stockvel money collected is for groceries arrange with store to also make transfers.

BRIBES LEADS TO ARREST

On Tuesday, 2 December 2025, a Syndicate including two municipal employees and two community members of Matlosana were arrested by the Hawks. This is after an investigation was conducted by Saps organised crime team, following allegations of soliciting bribes from specific community members in exchange of getting work from the municipality.

The City welcomes the arrest of individuals who have been formally charged with fraud and corruption and will appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 05th December 2025, for their bail application.

The municipality reaffirms its commitment to ethical conduct, clean governance, and zero tolerance toward corruption. Internal disciplinary processes will run concurrently with the ongoing criminal investigation.

The City encourages residents and employees to continue reporting any form of unethical behaviour through the established whistle-blowing channels to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of public service.

The municipality will never ask any individual to pay money or any form of compensation in exchange for employment.

Members of the public are urged not to make any payments to individuals claiming to offer employment on behalf of the municipality. Any such requests should be treated as a scam and reported immediately to the relevant municipal offices or local law enforcement authorities.

The municipality will not be held liable for any loss suffered as a result of engaging with fraudsters outside official recruitment channels.
