This weekend was such a reminder of how much we need each other.

We were at my niece’s second birthday and somehow ended up in the most honest, refreshing conversation with other parents.

I love that nobody was pretending. Nobody was performing. It was just real people talking about real things.

And that’s what I want more of. That normalising. That me too energy.

If you’re a new parent and you don’t have a circle around you that has kids, I really encourage you to find one.

A parent and baby class, a parent group, even an online community. There is something so powerful about being around people who are in it with you or have recently come out the other side.

Find your village. Protect your village. And when you find those people who just get it hold onto them. 🀍

Prawn Savoury Rice 🍀🍚

So lately, I’ve been learning to create little woosah moments for myself 🀍

On days like this, I always need something comforting but easy… so I made this quick curry flavoured prawn savoury rice using , South Africa’s No.1 Curry Powder ✨

Some worry, some cook curry.

INGREDIENTS
- 400g prawns
- 1 onion, chopped
- ΒΌ red pepper, chopped
- ΒΌ yellow pepper, chopped
- ΒΌ green pepper, chopped
- 1 tsp crushed garlic
- 1 tbsp Rajah All-in-One Curry Powder
- 4 cups cooked rice
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Handful fresh coriander

METHOD
1. Add a little olive oil to a pan, then sautΓ© the garlic together with the Rajah All-in-One Curry Powder for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
2. ⁠Add in the prawns and cook for about 3 minutes.
3. ⁠Then add in the onions and peppers for another 2–3 minutes.
4. ⁠Add the cooked rice and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
5. ⁠Season with salt and pepper and finish off with fresh coriander.

The Easiest Omega-3 Breakfast You’ll Ever Make 🐟🍳

I tried Blue Crane smoked sardines for two reasons
☝🏽 They’re smoked (obsessed with anything smoked) and
✌🏽They’re packed in olive oil.

I found them on the Checkers Sixty60

INGREDIENTS
(Measure with your heart)
- Blue Crane smoked sardines in olive oil
- Sliced onion
- Diced chilli
- Diced garlic
- Cherry tomatoes
- Lemon juice
- Chopped Coriander
- Salt & pepper

METHOD
1. I removed each sardine from the tin, took out the centre bone. (Prepare the sardines however you use too)
2. Drizzle the leftover olive oil from the tin straight into a heated pan.
3. Add in the sliced onions, chilli and garlic and Cherry tomatoes. Give everything a toss.
4. Add in the sardines, season with salt and pepper. Squeeze over lemon juice, finish with a handful of coriander and toss.

You can serve this with fresh buttered bread, crackers, toast and even have it for breakfast with eggs.

Easy Chicken & Rice πŸ—πŸŒΏ but make it feel like paella πŸ‹βœ¨

Juicy peri-peri chicken, golden turmeric rice and all the good flavours coming together in one pan… this one is a MUST!

The best part? Everything you need is from Shoprite (Xtra Savings doing the most, as always πŸ›’βœ¨)

INGREDIENTS

CHICKEN
- 1kg chicken (4 drumsticks + 4 thighs)
- ⁠¼ cup Mama’s Peri-Peri Sauce
- ⁠1 tsp salt
- ⁠1 tsp black pepper
- ⁠1 tsp chicken spice
- ⁠1 tsp paprika
- ⁠1 tsp garlic paste
- ⁠1 tsp crushed garlic

RICE
- 1Β½ cups rice
- Β½ tsp turmeric
- Salt to taste
- Rama (for cooking)
- Β½ onion, diced
- ΒΌ each red, green & yellow pepper, diced
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Fresh coriander & lemon wedges

METHOD
1. Mix all marinade ingredients with your chicken and let it sit overnight for best results or for a couple minutes works too!
2. ⁠Cook your rice with turmeric and a pinch of salt.
3. ⁠In a pan, heat Rama, add the chicken and then cook chicken through. Remove the chicken.
4. ⁠Add onions, peppers and leftover marinade, let it all cook down.
Stir in the rice, place chicken on top.
5. Finish with fresh lemon wedges and coriander.

Top it off with fresh lemon + coriander and you’re set ✨

We show what we want people to see πŸ‘€

I’m not complaining. I’m not bragging. I just think more of us need to be honest about what this actually looks like.

When I was pregnant, what I saw online was cute bumps, the cute ideas, the perfect nurseries and the aesthetic of it all.

And now as a new mom I wonder what if we shared more of this? What if we normalized the moments that are actually hard that no one really talks about?

Because as a community of new parents we could be saying, hey, this is normal. You’re not the only one running on no sleep, with no help. It’s ok to take your first shower at 2pm. It’s ok to show up a little messy because your baby comes first. It’s ok to have brain fog and survive entirely off your air fryer πŸ˜…

Now at six months I will admit it’s easier than when she was a newborn, but there’s still a lot that goes on. I really hope I can share more of the less perfect moments on here, so we can navigate this new phase together.

Because none of us should be doing this alone 🀍

And if you’re a new parent.. you got this! And you’re doing the best you can for your little one. Keep going πŸ™πŸ½ one day we will look back and miss these moments!
