📰 EPWP funds to Matjhabeng Municipality have been frozen after shocking claims that former councillors and political office bearers pocketed inflated salaries, some over R31 000 a month, 10 times more than the average stipend. Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson says the programme, meant to help unemployed youth, cannot be used for personal gain. Parliament’s Cogta committee, led by Dr Zweli Mkhize, is demanding answers as Matjhabeng officials failed to explain how funds were used.

{EXCLUSIVE} TymeBank customers are raising serious concerns after falling victim to a scam where fraudsters, posing as bank officials, used personal information like full names, ID numbers, addresses, and even account-opening locations to trick them into sharing OTPs.

The victims say money was quickly withdrawn through voucher systems linked to unknown phone numbers. Despite the growing number of cases, TymeBank insists there has been no data breach, blaming the incidents on widespread “vishing” scams.

A man was shot dead and his girlfriend wounded outside Goodluck Tavern in the early hours of Saturday morning. Witnesses say up to 10 shots were fired around 3:30am. The man, reportedly from Katlehong and possibly a police officer, died at the scene. His car was later found abandoned near the Angelo sports ground.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the establishment of a judicial commission of inquiry into allegations of deep-rooted corruption and organised crime within South Africa’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

According to Ramaphosa, the inquiry will be chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga and is mandated to investigate claims that a criminal syndicate has infiltrated key law enforcement structures, including the police, intelligence services, prosecuting authority, and judiciary.

The Free State Department of Health has confirmed an outbreak of measles in the Lejweleputswa District, with 64 cases reported across several local municipalities.

The most affected areas include Matjhabeng, which has recorded 38 cases, followed by Nala with 12, Masilonyana with 9, and Tswelopele with 5 confirmed infections.
