Tarven Shooting Update:

The police have reversed the death toll of Tarven shootings victims from ten people to nine in Bekkersdal in Gauteng occurred on Sunday morning the 21 of December 2025.Armed suspects travelling in a quantum minibus taxi and a light motor vehicle fired randomly at KwaNoxolo Tarven in Tambo section injuring ten people.The community of Bekkersdal called on police to fight illegal mining in the area as the source of violent crimes in their area.The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects.

The death toll from this summer’s initiation season in the Eastern Cape has climbed to 17, with dehydration and negligence identified as the main causes.

In response, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has launched urgent oversight visits across the province. The visits are aimed at assessing conditions at initiation schools and engaging traditional leaders, initiation practitioners, law enforcement and local government to prevent further deaths.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the grant payment schedule for January 2026. Payments will be distributed during the second week of the month, following the festive season break.

The official payment dates for January 2026 are:

Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 6 January 2026.

Disability Grant: Wednesday, 7 January 2026.

Children’s Grants: Thursday, 8 January 2026.

SRD (R370) Grant: Estimated between 27 January and 31 January 2026.

BREAKING NEWS: DJ Warras Shot Dead in Johannesburg CBD

Johannesburg, 16 December 2025 – Popular South African radio personality and podcaster Warrick Stock, known as DJ Warras ( on X), was fatally shot in the Johannesburg CBD near the Carlton Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports indicate the gunman approached on foot and fired at close range before fleeing. Vision Tactical confirmed the incident, noting Warras's links to a private security company involved in evictions from hijacked buildings.

Formerly with YFM, 5FM, Cliff Central, and SABC1's Live Amp, Warras was outspoken on social issues and recently ran JT VIP Protection Services.

Police are investigating; no arrests yet. The motive may relate to building reclamation operations.

I gave Bheki Cele Hard Cash, Matlala;
Alleged drug cartel Visimuzi Cat Matlala has told parliament Ad committee on Wednesday that the former police minister Bheki Cele has lied under oath.He said he gave him an amount in total of R500 000 on two occasions.The first occasion he gave him 300 000 and followed by 200 000 in cash.Aftet realising that he wont stop demanding money from him,then he decided to block him on his mobile phone.
According to Matlala,the money was to stop the police for harrassing him and to return his confiscated firearms.Matlala sitting in a chain chaii,spoke openly about Cele.He said he even arrange a meeting between him and KwaZulu Natal provincial commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
