ANC Eastern Cape Task Team Ruled Unlawful

The Makhanda High Court has ruled that the ANC's Eastern Cape Provincial Task Team (PTT) was unlawfully appointed and must stop operating immediately.

The court found that the task team, appointed by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula in May, violated the ANC constitution. All decisions taken by the team have been declared invalid.

The ruling is a major setback for Mbalula and Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane, who led the task team. The ANC has also been ordered to pay legal costs.

EFF Secures Improvements for Starpoint Workers

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it has helped workers at Starpoint Fish & Chips secure better working conditions after complaints of unfair treatment.

The party said it met with management after workers raised concerns about their working environment. During the meeting, the employer reportedly apologised for being rude to employees and promised to improve his conduct.

The EFF said workers will receive salary increases from this week, proper lunch breaks, days off, and formal employment contracts. Other workplace concerns were also resolved through an agreement.

The workers welcomed the outcome, while the EFF said it remains committed to defending workers' rights and fighting workplace exploitation.

SANTACO Warns Against Disruption of Public Transport During Planned Protests

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has warned that upcoming anti-illegal immigration protests should not interfere with public transport services or disrupt the movement of commuters.

The organisation reportedly said that while it recognises the right of citizens to protest and to raise concerns about illegal immigration, such demonstrations are expected to remain peaceful and comply with the law.

SANTACO spokesperson Rebecca Phala is said to have explained that the taxi body acknowledges public concerns, but maintained that any calls for reform should be pursued through lawful and non-violent means.

It was further indicated that protest actions should not obstruct essential economic activities or prevent people from accessing work, education, healthcare, and other daily commitments.

The council has reportedly urged organisers to engage with authorities to ensure public safety and the uninterrupted operation of transport services, while reaffirming its support for lawful civic participation.

Butterworth Football Clubs Celebrate Youth Day with Charity Drive

BUTTERWORTH – Several football clubs in Butterworth came together to celebrate Youth Day by hosting a charity tournament and donating clothes to Siyakhana Children's Home.

The initiative was spearheaded by Future United FC, which had been planning the outreach programme for some time before inviting other local teams to participate. Pioneers FC, FC Tshabalala and Young Stars FC joined the effort, helping to organize the tournament and collect clothing donations.

Organizers said the event highlights the important role sport can play in community development and aims to teach young people the value of helping those in need.

The clubs have pledged to make the programme an annual event and have called on local businesses to support future editions to ensure the initiative continues to make a positive impact in the community.

The organizers also thanked EFF Mnquma Ward 4 for donating clothing, as well as Future United FC players, parents, the Mhlawuli and Sihlali families, and other community members who contributed to the drive.

FC Tshabalala won the Under-13 division of the 2026 Charity Tournament, while Pioneers FC claimed the Under-15 title.
