I watched my son burnt alive by the community for a crime he didn't commit. 😭💔

We were coming from my father's funeral, and when we jumped out of the taxi and started walking, a lady screamed, "Vimbani... vimbani" (catch him). I was confused, and my 18-year-old son was confused too, and he started running. "Don't run, Sipho!" I shouted. My son was scared, running for his life, and they caught him and started beating him. "Please stop!"

I begged, crying. "He stole my phone and my money! This thief," the woman said. "He didn't even change his shirt; he was wearing the same shirt." I tried to explain how my son couldn't have stolen because we were away for a week and had just come from my father's funeral.

I watched them put tires around his neck and pour petrol all over his body, and they set him alight. He screamed, and I cried, not knowing what to do. Lord, my son. The woman's son came running, saying, "Mama, we caught him, the person who stole your phone and money; he is arrested." The woman shouted, "You killed the wrong boy; they found the real thief." By that time, my son was burnt to ashes. My only child.

I knelt and cried. The crowd left like nothing had happened. Sometimes, mob justice is not fair. Imagine burning an innocent person alive. Many were burnt alive for crimes they didn't commit. Sipho will never come back. When I sleep, I still hear his screams. 😭💔 The woman is still living her life with her son, like nothing happened. 😭💔

Three people have survived a road accident after two cars collided on the newly tarred road near Fred Joe’s area in Lusaka’s Garden Compound.

According to witnesses, the driver of a white car attempted to overtake and hit a grey vehicle, which then rammed into a makeshift stall.

The white car had two occupants, while the grey one had only the driver.

Hichilema awards Bruce Mwape for being a great coach to Copper Queens

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has awarded former Copperbelt Queens coach Bruce Mwape with the President’s Insignia of Meritorious Achievement for his outstanding work as head coach of the Zambia Women’s National Football Team.

Under Mwape’s leadership, the team had reached historic milestones which made them qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and Paris in 2024.

The Copper Queens also took part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.

Under Mwape, the Copper Queens won a bronze medal at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and became COSAFA Women’s Championship winners in 2022, followed by a silver medal in 2023.

Mwape, born on October 26, 1959 is a licensed coach who used to play for Nchanga Rangers and featured in the Zambia national football team, between 1978 and 1990.

He has over 30 years of coaching experience and has managed top Zambian clubs including Nchanga Rangers, Power Dynamos, Konkola Blades, Roan United and Konkola Mine Police.

Besides coaching, Mwape has mentored star players like Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, helping them grow into international football stars.

The President’s citation praised his dedication, hard work and commitment to bringing Zambia recognition on the global football stage.

“Your dedication and hardworking quality, and ensuring you bring the Zambia National flag to the world’s recognition deserves social recognition,” said President Hichilema.

Under the same category, Miracle Chipoto was also honoured for her international mixed martial arts skills.

The awards were conferred during the investiture Ceremony at State House to mark Zambia’s independence yesterday.

Others honoured in other categories include Bokolo Mutoyiwa, Berlingtone Mwape, Charles Mando, Dr Sixtus Mulenga, Dr Cecilia Shinondo posthumously, Dr Joseph Nkolola, George Siyuni (posthumously) and Bessie Chanda.

Mansa man promises juvenile biological daughter his property in exchange for s*x

A 40-YEAR-OLD man of Mansa in Luapula Province is on the run following reports that he defiled and impregnating his own 15-year-old daughter, promising her that she would inherit all his property after his death if she agreed to sleep with him.

The suspect, of Chungu Village in Chief Kalasa’s area, is believed to have taken advantage of his daughter between August and October 2025 while his wife was away at their family farm.

According to police, the teenager revealed that her father told her not to fear because she was 'special' and that all his belongings, including the house, livestock and farm would one day belong to her if she did what he asked.

The horrifying incident came to light after the girl’s mother, noticed a strange change in her daughter’s behaviour when she returned home from the farm earlier this month.

She told police that her daughter had become lazy, withdrawn and had lost interest in food which made her suspicious, especially after realising that the girl had not had her monthly period for two months.

Worried, the mother sat her daughter down one early morning and asked what was going on.

After some hesitation, the girl broke down and confessed that she had been sleeping with her own father.

The father slept with minor on three occasions while her mother was away and she was now pregnant.

According to the girl's mother, her husband had told the girl that she would inherit all his property after his death if she did not reveal their secret.

Shocked and heartbroken, the mother confronted her husband later that day and the man admitted what he had done but refused to say anything else.

The family later decided to report the matter to Mansa Central Police Station

A medical report was issued and the 15-year-old girl was taken to a safety house, where she is now receiving counselling and medical care.

However, before he could be arrested, the suspect fled the village and has not been seen since.

Luapula Province Police commanding officer Mwala Yuyi confirmed the incident to and described it as one of the most painful and disturbing cases of abuse the province has recorded this year.

"We have launched a manhunt for the suspect who is currently on the run. The victim is safe and receiving all necessary support as investigations continue,” stated Yuyi.
