Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane says his ministry ensured that all processes were followed before issuing the revised 2022 Census Population report, which he described as credible.

Dr Musokotwane says his ministry is a responsible one that made sure that it carried out consultations and ensured it was satisfied with the census report before it was issued.

“We are a responsible office and we were satisfied with the credible report which is now ready for utilisation,” he said.

Dr Musokotwane said this in Parliament in response to Nkana Member of Parliament (MP) Binwell Mpundu, who wanted the minister to respond to concerns by the Civil Service Commission chairperson Dr Choolwe Beyani, who disputed the report.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned Zambia against a proposed dedollarization initiative, citing the potential underminement of inflation control efforts. The IMF says the country's economic conditions are not conducive to dedollarization, as it lacks low and stable inflation rates. The IMF's warning comes after the Bank of Zambia proposed promoting local currency use and the Central Bank's proposed severe penalties for up to 10 years in jail for businessmen demanding US dollars for local transactions. What do you make of this push and pull between IMF and Zambia?

See the list of ZAMMSA board members who claim were not aware of the diversion of 61 out of 74 containers of medicines

The board members all claim that they were not aware that 61 out of 74 containers of medicines which were supposed to be stored at ZAMMSA warehouse were diverted to a private warehouse.

Instead of taking responsibility and resigining for failure to perform their functions even as individuals, they have singled out and blamed the Director General Victor Nyansulu whom they have since suspended.

Yes, the DG Nyansulu has to be investigated, but the board also failed to perform and discharge its function. We as ZBT raised an issue with ZAMRA regarding a truck of suspected fake drugs which was released and investigations have never been concluded, we engaged ZAMMSA but no action was takensee link https://www.facebook.com/share/p/EgZnY8VcXZdQpYXc/?mibextid=xfxF2i

As ZBT, we have been raising alarm bells at ZAMMSA after tip off from concerned citizens and sometimes sources within ZAMMSA but the board and other investigative wings have simply been complicit, see link on how ZAMMSA hoodwinked the country on award of contracts to local suppliers https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=952823686850116&id=100063674815385&mibextid=CDWPTG

This board did nothing to investigate because they are most likely toothless and compromised. Their allegiance is more to the appointing authority than the larger citizenry who are the ultimate authorities.

Is it possible that non of these board members knew about this scandal? is this board worth keeping in place when they have clearly demonstrated that they can't supervise and provide governance oversight over country's medication stores? How many citizens have died or their medical conditions deteriorated because of such gross incompetence?

The root of these problems is that most of these boards are constituted and staffed with political party carders, appointment is by political affiliation and nepotism, with little to no regard for competence and merit.

Even the controls to get secondments from professional bodies is all mired and soiled by political machinations. That's why these boards are only used by appointees as avenues to collect board fees and nothing more.

If real and competent citizens selected on merit are appointed, these matters would be simply be whistle blown to the media and not wait for a scandal of such magnitude to blow up. Innocent citizens have lost their lives. These are serious white collar crimes that should not be tolerated if Zambia is to function as a credible country.

Are we serious as a nation?

Hon. Paul CC Kabuswe writes....

LUSAKA HIGH COURT APPROVES KCM CREDITORS SCHEME OF ARRANGMENTS.

The much anticipated creditors scheme of arrangements has finally been approved by the Lusaka High Court as was estimated that by 28th June, 2024, the process would be finalized.

Now fellow citizens, what this means is that now, the Courts have now ordered that;

1. Vedanta Pays the initial $250 million for contractors and suppliers
2. Transfer of shares back to Vedanta.
3. Appointment of a new KCM board of directors. ( which will signify the termination of the Liquidation).

Fellow Zambian, this significant milestone further means, that issues of Government stepping in to cushion KCM salaries will now be a thing of the past.

Contractors and suppliers are expected to start receiving their monies within the month of July.

Now KCM has been unlocked. Thank you, Your Excellency President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, for your leadership and the fulfillment of your promise the the Copperbelt Province and Zambia.

Thank you to the Council of Ministers and everyone who has played a role in accomplishing this monumental task.

Hon. Paul CC Kabuswe SCORES ON KCM AS CLASS 2 CREDITORS VOTE IN FAVOUR OF SCHEME OF ARRANGEMENTS.

An impressive 99% of Class 2 creditors vote in favour of the proposed scheme.

This follows last week’s Class 1 meeting, where 99.6% of creditors voted in support.

With a cumulative approval rate of 99.3% from both classes of creditors, the scheme has
comfortably exceeded the required 75% threshold. The outcome is a resounding endorsement of Vedanta’s vision for KCM’s future and ability to drive growth and sustainability.

The scheme is now poised to move forward with the next stage of the process, which is the court sanctioning process, a critical step towards implementing the scheme.

The overwhelmingly positive outcome of these meetings serves as a powerful
endorsement of the trust creditors have placed in the vision for KCM’s future.
