SAFETY CONCERNS RAISED OVER USE OF MOTORBIKES FOR SCHOOL TRANSPORT IN CHILILABOMBWE
Residents of Chililabombwe have raised concerns over the growing use of motorbikes to transport school-going children, citing safety risks despite the convenience the service offers.
Some parents told Konkola News that while motorbikes provide a quick and affordable means of transport, there is a need for greater attention to children's safety. Ms. Violet Chipampe urged parents to arrange reliable transport for their children instead of simply providing transport money.
Other parents called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and the establishment of a training centre for motorbike riders to improve safety standards.
Meanwhile, Chililabombwe District Traffic Liaison Officer and Road Safety Coordinator, Inspector Justin Mutoya, said Traffic Police are conducting road safety awareness campaigns in schools, churches and communities, including Kawama, to educate children, parents and riders on responsible road use.
Inspector Mutoya also encouraged parents to know the riders transporting their children and ensure proper safety measures are in place. Traffic Police have further urged motorbike operators to obey traffic laws and prioritize the safety of young passengers.
