Dear SCC Family,
*WHO IS JESUS? – John 1*
Each of the gospel writers are painting a portrait of Christ to help the reader understand who Jesus is. They are four different gospel writers, each inspired by the Holy Spirit, sharing their perspective on who Jesus is. Together they share similar, & different material, to provide a rounded revelation of Jesus & His ministry upon the earth. The first chapter of John‘s gospel goes overboard to reveal who Jesus is. He provides a minimum of 10 titles!! With so many titles of Jesus mentioned in just one chapter, John leaves us in no doubt who Jesus is!! This TFD series will examine the different titles, roles & tasks of Jesus that John outlines in that first chapter of his gospel.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
*JOHN 1:1-4 NKJV*

John begins by revealing Jesus as the eternal Word (Logos). This Word was continually existing co-eternally with God. With God yet at the same time fully God. Everything was made & came into existence through Him – He is inspiration for all creation. John is basically saying that Jesus is the living expression of God revealed upon the earth. Wow!!
Jesus is the living eternal Word of God - a revelation of Jesus’s deity. SELAH

The concept of the ‘Word of God’ would have been familiar to John’s Jewish readers.
Echoes of the creation in Genesis & all the prophets had to say about the ‘word of the Lord’ would readily spring forth. For Greek readers, the Logos / Word was associated with the search for the meaning of life.
John is writing profoundly, yet communicating brilliantly, to both groups in his audience – Jews & Greeks. He is telling them about what they have been searching for all their lives in a hugely culturally relevant way. Their quest is met i

Dear SCC Family,
*GOD’S PERFECTIONS.*
David praises the Lord’s great attributes of love, faithfulness, righteousness & justice in Psalm 36.
The overflow of God’s glory radiating unto us meets our every basic human need – we are loved, protected,
sheltered, have the warmth of His embrace, nurtured, provided with abundant food & drink & held in community (nb: children of men v7).
We see all these portrayed in the imagery of this Psalm. Incredible!!
Yesterday we focussed on the majesty of God’s righteousness, which is revealed to us, & gifted unto us, ‘In Christ’. Today we will think more on God’s justice (righteous judgment).

Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast. How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

David portrays God’s justice & judgements as being full of wisdom & as deep as the ocean. Truly vast & beyond our capacity to measure!! That is amazing as to this day humanity has never fully ventured to the deepest depths of the ocean & we are still discovering creatures that exist in that realm. God’s justice & righteous judgements are inexhaustible & beyond our current scope to fully investigate or comprehend!! SELAH
We marvel at the Lord’s majesty & we must also live with His mystery.

God is the God of justice (Isaiah 30:18). It is who He is & part of His unchanging divine nature. His justice is always with righteous & just judgements & it just flows freely & effortlessly from Him. His righteousness (always doing the right thing) means He always makes right, wise
