COMPLETED CDF PROJECTS COMMISSIONED IN CHINGOLA

Completed Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects in Ipafu, Chingola, have been commissioned, with the projects comprising education and health infrastructure worth more than three million kwacha.

Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Lawrence Mwaza commissioned a one-by-three classroom block at Ipafu C Primary School, constructed under the 2025 Chingola CDF at a cost of K1,666,689.40.

The project includes 120 desks, while a solar-powered water reticulation system, funded through locally generated resources, has also been installed at the school.

Mr. Mwaza also commissioned a one-by-six multi-unit mortuary at Ipafu Clinic, which was implemented under the 2026 CDF at a cost of K1,388,000.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Ipafu community on Friday afternoon, Mr. Mwaza said the projects demonstrate government's commitment to equitable development and improving access to essential public services.

Meanwhile, Chingola District Commissioner Howard Kamwandi said the New Dawn Administration has transformed communities under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr. Kamwandi said CDF has enabled local authorities to respond to development needs directly within communities.

And Chingola Town Clerk Namukoko Kalufyanya said the devolution policy has given councils greater powers to identify and implement projects according to the needs of their communities.

Delivering a vote of thanks, Jane Musonda, a pupil at Ipafu C Community School, thanked the government for investing in education infrastructure.

BALLOT PAPERS ARRIVE IN CHINGOLA DISTRICT

Ballot papers for the 2026 General Elections have arrived in Chingola District, marking another key milestone in preparations for the August 13 polls.

The consignment comprises ballot papers for the district's three parliamentary constituencies: Chingola Central, Nchanga, and Chingola West.

The delivery is part of the Electoral Commission of Zambia's nationwide distribution of ballot materials ahead of polling day.

Confirming the development, Provincial Elections Officer Shaft Gent Musaka said the ballot papers were received safely under tight security.

Mr. Musaka said the district received six pallets of ballot papers, with each pallet containing 32 ballot papers.

He explained that a brief misunderstanding arose during the handover process after the delivery officer announced that the consignment had three locks, without initially disclosing that one of the locks had been damaged.

Mr. Musaka said the issue was later clarified, allowing the process to proceed smoothly.

He further said election stakeholders resolved to weld the storage room where the ballot papers are being kept as an additional security measure.

Mr. Musaka said the move is aimed at safeguarding the electoral materials and maintaining the integrity of the electoral process until the storage facility is officially opened in the presence of authorised election officials and accredited stakeholders.

POLICE DISPUTE ALLEGATIONS OF STOPING CITIZENS FIRST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HARRY KALABA FROM CAMPAIGNING IN CHINGOLA

The Zambia Police Service on the Copperbelt has dismissed allegations that it stopped Citizens First Party President Mr. Harry Kalaba from campaigning in Chingola District.

In a statement, Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga described the claims circulating on social media as false and misleading.

Mr. Hamoonga said Mr. Kalaba and his entourage were allowed to conduct their scheduled campaign activities without any interference.

He explained that the only advice given by police was for the team to stick to the notified programme, after they allegedly introduced an unscheduled route and additional stopovers.

Mr Hamoonga said, the advice was meant to ensure effective security management, traffic control, and the safety of both supporters and members of the public.

He has stressed that at no point did the police stop or prevent Mr. Kalaba from campaigning, and the programme continued peacefully.

Mr Hamoonga added that the Zambia Police Service remains professional and impartial, and is committed to providing equal security to all political parties and candidates during the electoral process.

The Commissioner has since urged members of the public to disregard the false allegations and rely on verified information from official channels.

HH ASSURES NATION OF FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS

President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the nation that Zambia will hold free and fair elections as the country prepares for the August 13, 2026 General Election.

Speaking during prayers for peace and unity in Kitwe, President Hichilema said his administration remains committed to ensuring a credible electoral process.

He also highlighted government social support programmes, including the Social Cash Transfer Scheme and the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), saying they have improved the welfare of many Zambians.

Earlier, Copperbelt Consortium of Christian Associations Chairperson Reddy Lewila called on political leaders, candidates and citizens to uphold peace, respect one another, and promote national unity before, during and after the elections.

The prayers for peace and unity brought together government officials, church leaders and members of the public to seek God's guidance for a peaceful electoral process.

Social Political Anthropologist, Dr James Musonda, says there is nothing wrong with National Reconcilliation Party for Unity and Prosperity NRPUP Presidential Candidate Brian Mundubile asking the public for financial support to fund his campaigns.

Dr Musonda described Mr. Mundubile’s decision as a welcome and refreshing shift in political financing.

He noted that by seeking public support, Mr. Mundubile is championing transparency and building a direct line of accountability, which places a genuine obligation on leadership after the election.

Dr Musonda urged Zambians to commend rather than mock the effort, saying it is a step towards liberating and reforming the country’s political landscape.

He has concluded that Zambia deserves leadership that serves the people, answers to the people, and is funded by the people.
