MAN BEATEN BY MOB FOR ATTEMPING TO STEAL A CHILD IN CHIPATA.

A 27-year-old man of Chipata’s Referendum area is nursing wounds after being beaten by a mob for attempting to steal a five-year-old child.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba told 3FM News that the incident happened yesterday around 07:00 hours at Road board area.

He says brief facts of the matter are that Blessings Hawezi aged 23, the step mother to the victim prepared him for school and asked his friend aged seven to es**rt him.
Mr. Mweemba says on their way, the two met the suspect, who pretended to know them and their family and that later he picked the victim and told his friend that he was going to buy biscuits for the victim and will bring him back.

He adds that whilst the suspect was on his way the friend started crying on top of his voice as he was rushing to tell the mother of the victim.

Mr. Mweemba adds that on his way he met Friday Sichali aged 41 who sensed danger on how the child was crying and started perusing the man who attempted to run away.

The Police commanding officer says this prompted the Woman to start shouting for help and a Mob of People chased and caught him.

He has identified the suspect as Isaac Mtonga. Mr. Mweemba says the suspect has been detained and a docket has been opened.
