LUBUSHA MOURNS REFEREE ALLEGEDLY KILLED DURING FOOTBALL MATCH.
Chipangali Member of Parliament Andrew Lubusha has expressed sorrow over the death of a referee who allegedly died after being assaulted during a football match at Mchenga Primary School grounds in Msandile Ward.
In a statement, Mr. Lubusha described the incident as “deeply regrettable and unacceptable,” stressing that violence has no place in sports and community activities.
The lawmaker said sporting activities are meant to promote unity, discipline, and peace among communities, especially young people, and warned that acts of violence threaten social harmony.
Mr. Lubusha has since called on law enforcement agencies to conduct swift investigations into the matter and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the laws of Zambia.
He further urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow relevant authorities to handle the matter professionally.
Meanwhile, the Chipangali legislator dismissed assertions that the tournament was branded as the “Andrew Lubusha Tournament,” saying that local organizers only approached his office for supplementary support towards an already existing community tournament, to which they contributed match balls and K5,000.
He stated that neither he nor his office organized, owned, or branded the tournament, adding that the last tournament they organized was a K200,000 competition held in January this year.
And Mr. Lubusha has conveyed his condolences to the Tonga family, friends, and the people of Chipangali following the death of the referee.
