ZESCO has drastically reduced electricity exports from 520MW in February 2024 to 106MW in order to prioritize domestic supply amid a national power deficit.

Senior Manager for Power Trading, Engineer Collins Mumba, said the move is aimed at cushioning Zambians from severe load-shedding as hydroelectric water levels remain critically low.

He noted that while Zambia is still importing power daily to stabilize the grid, sustainable solutions lie in diversifying energy sources to reduce reliance on imports and secure long-term electricity generation.

Breaking: Malawi's president, Lazarus Chakwera has conceded defeat to former president Peter Mutharika, acknowledging the will of the people and respecting the constitution.

Mutharika took an overwhelming lead with more than 65% of valid votes cast in the September 16 election.

A candidate needs 50% plus one vote to be declared the winner in Malawi. Chakwera’s concession came hours before an official declaration of results by the country’s electoral commission.

Zambian comedian, actor, pastor, and film writer Robam Mwape, popularly known as Mwine Mushi, has died at the age of 51 in Solwezi. His elder brother and fellow actor, Owas Ray Mwape, confirmed the news, revealing that in his final hours, Mwine Mushi repeatedly said, “my time is up.”

Though he had previously suffered from high blood pressure and collapsed in Solwezi last month, he had since recovered and appeared healthy until he suddenly complained of tiredness before passing away.

Owas described his late brother as an exceptionally gifted artist who wrote over 4,000 scripts, created the Mwine Mushi character, and contributed significantly to Zambian film and television. Mwape also led Robam Mwape Ministries in Solwezi. He leaves behind a wife, five children, two grandchildren, and five siblings. His funeral will be held in North Western Province.
