Kagem Mining Limited Board Chairman Sixtius Mulenga says this decision will lead to an increase in job security, employment creation, and economic activities.

Dr. Mulenga told ZNBC News that no mining company can survive with higher taxes.

He says the government understood and responded to their plight collaboratively and quickly after being approached by the industry collectively.

He further stated that in the past 15 years, the gemstone mining sector has grown more than tenfold from 20 million tonnes of revenue to over 200 million tonnes, making Zambia the largest producer of gemstones in the world.

Jay Jay Banda resurfaces in blurry live Facebook video

AFTER six months of pulling a world class disappearing act, runaway former Petauke Central Member of Parliament (MP) Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda has finally made a not so grand return in a blurry Facebook live video that looked like it was taken using an uncleaned camera or a Pop 2 model of a particular phone brand.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DNTaWJiya/?mibextid=oFDknk

Banda escaped police custody in August last year while he was admitted to Chipata Central Hospital in Eastern Province.

His escape also led to the arrest of his wife Lombe Chali who was at his bed side, two police officers and three prison warders for allegedly aiding his escape.

And the officers recently appeared in court for the charge, with a witness testifying that the suspects assigned to gurad the fugitive lawmaker appeared drunk.

The country had gone for months without hearing from Banda until he shared a new year message at the start of the 2025.

Since then, netizens and the country at large had not heard or seen Banda until his blurry live video last night.

The runaway former law maker was recently spotted in Zimbabwe, making government swear that it had nabbed him.

However, attempts to extradite the former Petauke Central law maker from that country only proved futile.

Banda, with a K2 million bounty on his head however made rumours of holding an online presser to address the nation in the past days.

While that almost sounded to be impossible and false, the fugitive former MP surprised the nation last evening after he appeared live to his 145,000 Facebook followers.

Appearing in a not so luxurious flat, Banda looked visibly thinner like someone who had been on a strict diet or subjected to 100 days and nights fasting.

His voice was barely audible over the static as it kept cutting in and out, leaving his viewers to wonder whether it was poor network or just fear in his actions.

Within minutes of his blurry comeback, Ban

GRADE 11 PUPIL STABS GRADE 12 PUPIL AT MONZE SCHOOL

By Helga Chibwe

A 15-year-old Grade 11 pupil at Canisius Boarding Boys Secondary School in Monze District, Southern Province, has been detained by police for allegedly stabbing a Grade 12 pupil who is also a prefect at the same school.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident, which occurred on February 2, 2025, during the cleaning period at the school.

According to Mr. Daka, the pupils were directed to clean the school hall, but the suspect refused to participate.

This prompted the victim, a school hall usher and prefect, to follow the suspect to his dormitory and inquire why he did not take part.

During the argument, the suspect pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the victim in the stomach, he then threw the knife into the grass, but other pupils recovered it and handed it over to school management.

The victim sustained a deep wound to the stomach, extending to the intestines, and suffered heavy bleeding.

He was rushed to Chikuni Mission Hospital, where he underwent surgery and his condition is reported to be stable.

The DRUNK cop, who released 13 suspects from police cells to enjoy the start of 2025 in Lusaka says he did not realise what he had done until he read it online the next day.

THE police officer who is now in hot soup after freeing detainees and telling them to go and celebrate the New Year, has told authorities that he didn’t even remember doing it until he saw it on social media.
The officer identified as Detective Inspector Titus Phiri of Leonard Cheelo Police Post in Lusaka’s Kanyama Compound has been arrested and detained following his staggering display of drunken bravado in which he single-handedly orchestrated a daring jailbreak, freeing detainees.
According to reports, As 2024 drew to a close on Tuesday morning, Phiri who is the team leader of the tiny police post was allegedly indulging in a festive drinking spree.
After several bottles of Junta clearly shed his inhibitions, Phiri stumbled out of the tavern and staggered to his workplace around 10:00 hours with a shocking display of drunken authority.
Upon arrival at the inquiries desk, Phiri demanded the keys to the cells, threatening to lock up the female constable on duty who had initially resisted his orders.
Apparently, Phiri’s alcohol-fueled inspiration came from President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent pardon of 759 inmates on Christmas Day and perhaps feeling a sense of festive generosity, took it upon himself to grant his own makeshift pardon to detainees.
With keys in hand, Phiri dramatically flung open the doors of the filthy and foul-stenched cells, proclaiming freedom for all the inmates.
The delighted detainees, seizing the unexpected opportunity, made a frantic run for freedom.
Concerned that they could trip, fall and break their limbs and ruin their New Year celebrations, Phiri urged them to “walk, not run,” as he had given them the total freedom.
In total 13 detainees escaped from the cells while two chose to stay behind.
Oblivious to the chaos he had unleashed, Phiri nonchalantly sauntered off to continue his revelry as his fellow officers launched a manhunt for the escapees and their colleague.
As he handed himself in yesterday, Phiri shocked the rank and file of
