Choppies Supermarket in Mansa Shut Down Over Health Violations.

The Mansa Municipal Council has officially closed the Choppies Supermarket branch in Mansa due to continued violations of public health regulations. The decision comes after the store failed to address repeated sanitation concerns, including the discharge of raw sewage caused by overflowing septic tanks and a blocked soak pit.

Initial inspections on July 22, 2025, uncovered the health hazard, prompting a seven day ultimatum from the Council. However, follow-up inspections on July 30 and August 6 confirmed no significant improvements, leading to the issuance of a 24 hour abatement notice. With the issue unresolved, the Council obtained a court order to close the premises.

The closure was executed by council officials in collaboration with the Zambia Police Service. The parties responsible are scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2025.

Speaking on the sidelines of a football tournament he graced as Guest of Honour in Chawama, Timothy Kantenga the Chawama UPND aspiring Member of Parliament stated that the narrative claiming Chawama does not have an MP is incorrect.

The aspiring Parliamentarian emphasized that funerals should not be politicized, urging unity and respect during times of mourning.

Kantenga also expressed his wish for former President Edgar Lungu to be laid to rest in Zambia the country he served as President.

The Hotel and Catering Association of Zambia in Northern Province has bemoaned the low number of guests at this year’s Ukusefya Pang’wena Traditional Ceremony.

Provincial Coordinator JAIROS SIMUNYOLA tells Mano News that the industry had expected a lot of visitors but instead experienced what he described as “visitor isolation.”

MR. SIMUNYOLA says hotel and catering players were advised before the ceremony not to hike prices excessively, advice they followed, yet the turnout remained low.

He has attributed the poor attendance partly to the absence of the Republican President, noting that when the Head of State attends such events, many government officials also travel, boosting lodge and hotel bookings.

MR. SIMUNYOLA, has however, commended attendees for the peaceful and incident-free ceremony.

Potipher Tembo Assumes Role as Deputy High Commissioner to Botswana.

Newly appointed Deputy High Commissioner to Botswana, Potipher Tembo, has officially reported for duty at the Zambia High Commission.

Tembo is a familiar figure in Zambian politics, particularly in Chawama Constituency, where he has contested the parliamentary seat under the United Party for National Development UPND in past elections. His active involvement in grassroots politics and community engagement in Chawama has made him a notable political figure in Lusaka’s political landscape.

In his new diplomatic role, Tembo is expected to leverage his experience in public service and constituency representation to strengthen Zambia’s bilateral relations with Botswana, promote trade, and foster cooperation in various sectors between the two countries.
