FAZ Secures Friendlies Against South Africa and Burundi

By Mike Jovic Mwendachabe

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has lined up two international friendlies for the Chipolopolo during the November FIFA window (10–18 November).

FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande announced that Zambia will face World Cup-bound South Africa on November 15, followed by a match against Burundi on November 18 in Bujumbura.

Shepande said the games are part of preparations for the Morocco 2025 AFCON, where Zambia is in Group A with Morocco, Mali, and Comoros. He emphasised that all top players will feature as FAZ aims to ensure the team is fully ready for the continental tournament.

FAZ, GRANT PART WAYS

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its members and stakeholders that it has mutually separated with Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant.

FAZ general secretary Machacha Shepande says both parties agreed to mutually separate to help chart a new way forward for the Chipolopolo.

β€œThe Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has agreed to mutually separate with Zambia Senior Men’s National Team coach Avram Grant. The two parties agreed to mutually separate with FAZ wishing Mr. Grant the best of luck in his future endeavours,” Shepande says.

β€œThe rest of the details will be communicated in due course. For now can only thank Mr. Grant for his contribution to the Zambian game.”

FAZ appointed Grant as head coach on December 22, 2022 on a two-year deal.

Grant oversaw two back-to-back AFCON qualifications in 2024 and 2025/26 editions.

Zambia is due to participate in the Morocco 2025 AFCON edition where the Chipolopolo are in Group A alongside Morocco, Mali and Comoros.

KABWE COUPLE ARRESTED - FOUND WITH 307.2 KILOGRAMS OF ZESCO CABLES

Two people have been arrested in Kabwe, Central Province, after they were found in possession of 307.2 kilograms of ZESCO cables, suspected to have been supplied to them by unknown vandals involved in the vandalism of ZESCO installations.

Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga confirmed the arrest, identifying the suspects as a couple from Luangwa Township in Kabwe, who are reportedly known buyers of stolen and vandalised ZESCO cables. The incident occurred on October 21, 2025, around 20:00 hours in Luangwa Township.

Commissioner Munganga explained that the arrest followed intensive investigations into a series of vandalism cases targeting ZESCO installations. The investigations revealed that unknown vandals had been supplying stolen cables to Sunday Sichimata and Anna Ngoma, who in turn allegedly sold them to customers based on the Copperbelt and in Lusaka.

She added that a search conducted at the couple’s residence led to the recovery of assorted ZESCO cables weighing 307.2 kilograms.

The suspects have since been charged with being in possession of property believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained. They are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
