FEATUTE: Please spare Patson Daka

By Chibulu Musonda

YES, that miss was really bad for a striker of his calibre.

But when you mess up or things are not going well you are really struggling you want to go home and get a hug and go again.

Yes, if such a miss was at Leicester City, it is understandable that fans can call Daka all sorts of names.

Patson Daka needs to up his game without a doubt. He himself knows that. 90+ plus minutes, zero shot, zero goal, zero assist.

Today, Avram Grant should have probably substituted Daka earlier than in Tanzania.

He’s really on a horrendous run of form with no goal or assist in 3 World Cup qualifiers.

But whilst we are disappointed with Daka’s performances of late and that sitter fluffed today, let us remember that the striker was out for a long time with an injury.

He’s looked short of confidence on his return both for club and country.

We need Daka to fire up on all cylinders ahead of the Africa Cup.

Therefore, as Zambians let us back Daka to bounce back to good scoring form.

Not lipulanga, anasila and stuff like that. Please spare Patson.

Kuno he’s home. And home is a place you find love when you are struggling.

You have seen this story of Daka being written off before after a dip in form especially around 2015 when he was playing for all national teams without scoring.

At 27 years old, Daka is now around the top 5 goal scoring strikers of all time in Zambia .

Therefore, he deserves love and not insults from home.

We walk with him when he’s struggling because Daka needs our support more now than when he’s in top form.

LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL LAUNCHES PROBE INTO ALLEGED OFFICER MISCONDUCT AT BH MARKET

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) expresses deep concern over a circulating social media video depicting a Council police officer soliciting and receiving an undisclosed amount of money from a Vlogger at BH Market in the Central Business District (CBD).

We wish to categorically state that the actions of the officer in question were not sanctioned by the Council. The LCC does not condone corruption or any illegal conduct in any form and remains committed to upholding integrity and accountability in all its operations.

Furthermore, the public is advised that the Council has never charged, nor does it require any form of permit for vlogging activities. Vlogging is not classified among activities that necessitate Council-issued permits.

We have therefore instituted serious investigations on the matter and if the officer involved is found wanting, he will be dealt with accordingly.

The Council acknowledges the importance of content creation and its role in promoting tourism and culture. We are committed to working with content creators and providing them with the necessary support and guidance in within the boundaries of the law.

We value the contributions of content creators to our city’s image and look forward to continuing to work with them to promote Lusaka as a tourist-friendly destination.

Mai Guru suffered a stroke while on set

BARELY a fortnight since the burial of celebrated comedian and actor, Robam Mwape who was fondly known as Mwine Mushi, Zambia is once again mourning the death of another screen giant, Wanga Zulu who died in the early hours of today aged 51.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17Mjv2Mkte/

Over the past years Wanga endeared herself to the fans of Zambia's telenovela series Mpali with her brilliant potrayal of the character Mai Guru, a senior wife to a polygamous star actors of the Zambezi magic production.

Wanga's unsmistakble talent and magnetic screen presence redefined local theatre and television. Her artistry left an enduring mark on the hearts of many Zambians who grew up watching her performances.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Mutale, and their five children, who describe her as not just a mother, but a pillar of strength and comfort to the entire family.

Speaking in an emotional interview, her second-born daughter Natasha Mutale said her mother’s passing was difficult to comprehend.

“The news of my mother’s passing is still new and confusing to me, just like it is to everyone else. She was more of a friend than a mother,” Natasha shared tearfully.

While her death has left a void in the hearts of many, Mai Guru’s legacy continues to shine through the characters she brought to life and the inspiration she offered to fellow artists.

The President of the National Arts Theatre Association of Zambia (NATAZ) and Mpali cast director, Eric Kasomo Jr, described her passing as “a heavy and unexpected burden to bear.”

"Since she began her acting career about 18 years ago, humility has always been her greatest attribute,” Kasomo said. “Those who worked with her can attest that she was one of the most humble and disciplined performers in the industry.”

Kasomo recalled meeting Wanga in 2009 during a Muvi TV casting call for Brothers, where she played the character Mawere the role that first shot her to fame. Her exceptional performance opened doors to notable productions such as Zedman, Mfuti, and Njira, and later, Mpali, where she became a household name as “Mai Guru.”

Speaking on behalf of NATAZ, Kasomo said Wanga was known not only for her talent but also for her warmth, spirituality, and sense of unity.

“During production meetings, she often led the opening and closing prayers, earning the affectionate nickname ‘our in-house pastor,’” he said. “Each time we met, we’d ask, ‘Where is Mai Guru for the opening prayer?’ She had a way of making everyone feel covered in prayer and peace.”

Kasomo described her as a “mother figure” who commanded respect both on and off the set. Despite being older than him, she carried herself with humility and professionalism, respecting the hierarchy of their work relationship.

“I used to call her my girl because she was my tribal cousin,” he said, smiling. “Even though she was older, she always treated me as her director. That showed her deep respect for professionalism and set etiquette.”

He fondly recalled one personal moment after an invitation to her birthday celebration at her home.

“When I arrived, her husband was surprised to see how young I was. He even asked me to cut her birthday cake. That moment reflected the respect she had for her colleagues and her dedication to her craft,” Kasomo reminisced.

Though human like everyone else, Kasomo said Wanga’s virtues far outweighed her flaws.

“She was a fantastic team player and a caring mother figure,” he said. “The younger actors are mourning a mentor, her peers are mourning a friend, and her fans are mourning a warm, inspiring soul.”

Wanga was widely respected for mentoring young actors often guiding them on matters of morality, respect, and discipline. Kasomo described her as “soft-spoken yet firm,” both on and off camera, saying these traits reflected who she truly was in real life.

“The industry has lost a beacon of wisdom,” he said solemnly. “She still had so much more to give to the creative community.”

Recalling her final days, Kasomo said he was among the first to rush to the hospital after learning that she had been admitted.

The family had opted for private medical care, which is why her illness had not been made public.
He disclosed that, in 2014 Wanga survived survival cancer.

Kasomo said that ten days ago she experienced a partial stroke while on set which made her blood pressure to be high, she was then rushed to Levy Mwanawasa teaching Hospital-high cost section were the doctors advised that she should be transferred to the intensive care unit(ICU) where she was treated until her passing.

“The doctors told us it was a 50-50 situation and urged us to pray,” he said quietly.

“We believed God would heal her, but it was not to be.”

He described Wanga as a “jovial, humble, and helpful soul” who touched countless lives through her art and kindness.

“The industry has lost more than an actress,” he said. “We have lost a pillar, a mother, and a mentor.”

As tributes continue to pour in from across the country, one thing remains clear Mai Guru’s light may have dimmed on earth, but her legacy will continue to illuminate the Zambian film industry for generations to come.

Meet the 21 year old law student who wants to be Choma mayor next year

AS the country gears up for the 2026 general election, a fresh face from Choma has thrown his hat into the political ring and he’s just 21.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14JnwXzpmW4/

Lushomo Hamahuwa, a law student at Cavendish University says he is tired of being told he is too young to lead when he is considered old enough to vote.

“I cannot be young and mature enough to vote-in a leader, and yet be taken as immature to run for that very position,” he told Kalemba in an interview.

In a country where older leaders doze off during important national addresses while wearing the Siziba attire and become social media chief content creators, Lushomo, just like his name has the faith to bring change to such commitments.

Born and bred in Choma surrounded by sour milk and cow dung, Lushomo was born to Albert Hamahuwa and Rachel Munalula as the eldest in a family of two.

His love for politics was sparked at just 12 years old when he listened to a Barack Obama speech which was done in Chicago in 2007, a moment he says changed his life.

He went on to serve as Children’s News Agency Bureau President for Choma District, before training as a citizen journalist with the Alliance for Community Action.

Those roles he says gave him the platform to quiz leaders and push for accountability experiences that revealed how much still needs to be done for ordinary people.

Now at Cavendish University studying law, Lushomo believes his generation is ready to lead.

If elected mayor, he wants to improve Choma’s long-neglected drainage and sanitation systems, build recreational centres for young people, support agriculture ventures and, crucially, bring transparency to the Constituency Development Fund.

He also plans to create a council of youth and community representatives to help shape policy.

“Leadership should be collaborative. One ant cannot raise an anthill alone,” he says.

Unlike many who join political parties for backing, Lushomo has chosen to stand as an independent candidate.

He argues that this frees him from what he calls “party interference” and allows him to serve people directly.

“Many bright minds enter politics, but their ideas vanish once parties take over. I want to stay answerable to the people, not a political hierarchy,” he stated.

His candidacy has already drawn mixed reactions in Choma. Some voters see him as far too young, while others admire his courage to challenge the status quo.

He takes inspiration from youthful Zambian politicians like Christopher Kang’ombe and Binwell Mpundu, as well as liberation icons such as our country’s first President Kenneth Kaunda and Patrice Lumumba.

“Young people across Africa are proving themselves every day. It won’t kill to give us a try. I believe young people like me have a heart for the people because we are not interested in financial gains but serving the people,” he explained.

“I feel we as young people connect better with our communities. We are able to relate with the elderly and the younger generation better than the old folks.”..https://kalemba.news/politics/meet-the-21-year-old-law-student-who-wants-to-be-choma-mayor-next-year/

POLICE ARREST DRIVER OVER VIOLENT ABDUCTION AT LUSAKA BURIAL CEREMONY

Zambia Police have made an arrest in connection with the violent abduction and assault of a 34-year-old man, Joe Nyondo, during a burial ceremony in Lusaka last week.

The incident took place on 25 September 2025, around 13:00 hours at the Old Leopards Hill Cemetery.

Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi disclosed in a statement availed to Byta FM that Nyondo, a resident of Lusaka, was allegedly seized and beaten by unidentified individuals.

Chilabi revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that while a burial was underway for a Kaunda Square resident, a grey Toyota Quantum van stormed the site.

He stated that the vehicle was carrying between 12 and 16 occupants, some of whom were armed with offensive weapons, and caused unrest among the mourners before forcibly abducting Nyondo.

He revealed that the police investigation quickly led to the arrest of the vehicle’s driver, Malaki Shadreck Ngeke, a 33-year-old resident of Matero, who was apprehended at Heroes Stadium, the location where the victim had been taken.

Nyondo sustained injuries in the attack and was issued a medical report at Mandevu Police Post before being taken to Chipata Level One Hospital for treatment.
