ZCCM Investments Holdings PLC has donated assorted foodstuffs to 180 elderly beneficiaries under the care of Steps for Good Works Foundation in a gesture aimed at supporting abandoned and vulnerable senior citizens.
The handover ceremony was marked by an emotional moment when 101-year-old Mama Maggie Chishimba, the oldest beneficiary under the foundation’s care, attended the event. Her presence symbolized resilience and highlighted the importance of supporting elderly people who are often neglected and living in difficult conditions.
Speaking during the event, Steps for Good Works Foundation Executive Director Reverend George Njobvu expressed gratitude to ZCCM IH for partnering with the organization in providing care and support to vulnerable senior citizens.
He said the donation would help restore hope, dignity, and happiness among elderly people facing poverty, loneliness, and abandonment and strengthen the foundation’s ongoing food assistance and social care programmes for senior citizens in the community.
Reverend Njobvu said the community members and stakeholders who attended the ceremony commended ZCCM IH for the gesture, describing it as a demonstration of compassion and humanity toward vulnerable members of society.
He indicated that the elderly beneficiaries received the donated foodstuffs with gratitude and joy, as the event underscored the growing need for continued support and care for senior citizens across the country.
