“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭55‬-‭58‬

We are appalled by the tragic death of Charlie Kirk but we are encouraged that he is in glory. May we pray for his family and continue to preach the gospel to this lost and dying world.

We may not know everything and everyone and today the internet 🛜 has echoes of Charlie Kirk an activist! We didn’t know who he was until today we woke up to the news of him being shot dead, we took time to check out his content on social sites and the message is clear he was a mouth piece of good message!

May the lord welcome you💔⛓️‍💥

FIRST READING
“All things were created through him and for him.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians (Colossians 1:15-20)

Christ Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities — all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the Church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 100:1-2.3.4.5 (R. 2b)
R/. Come before the Lord, singing for joy.

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing for joy. R/.

Know that he, the Lord, is God.
He made us; we belong to him.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock. R/.

R/. Come before the Lord, singing for joy.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with songs of praise.
Give thanks to him, and bless his name. R/.

Indeed, how good is the Lord,
eternal his merciful love.
He is faithful from age to age. R/.

ALLELUIA John 5: 12
Alleluia. I am the light of the world, says the Lord; he who follows me will have the light of life. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 5:33-39)

At that time: The Pharisees and the scribes said to Jesus, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.” And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.” He told them a parable also: “No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it upon an old garment; if he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine desires new; for he says, ‘The old is good.”’

*AUGUST 31ST 2025.*

*TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C.*

*FIRST READING*
“Humble yourself so you will find favour in the sight of the Lord.”

*A reading from the Book of Sirach (SIRACH 3: 17 - 20, 28 - 29)*

My son, perform your tasks in meekness; then you will be loved more than a giver of gifts. The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so you will find favour with God. There are many who are noble and renowned, but it is to the humble that he reveals his mysteries. For great is the might of the Lord; he is glorified by the humble. The affliction of the proud has no healing, for a plant of wickedness has taken root in them, though it will not be perceived. The mind of the wise man will ponder the words of the wise, and an attentive ear is the wise man’s desire.

*The Word of the Lord.*

*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*
Taken from Psalm 65: 4- 5ac, 6 - 7ab, 10 - 11 (R.) 11b

And the response is;
*R/. In your goodness, O God, you provided for the poor.*

The just shall rejoice at the presence of God;
they shall exult with glad rejoicing.
O sing to God; make music to his name.
The Lord is his name. *R/.*

Father of orphans, defender of widows:
such is God in his holy place.
God gives the desolate a home to dwell in;
he leads the prisoners forth into prosperity. *R/.*

You poured down, O God, a generous rain;
when your people languished,
you restored their inheritance.
It was there that your flock began to dwell.
In your goodness,
O God, you provided for the poor. *R/.*

*SECOND READING*
“You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God.”

*A reading from the Letter to the Hebrews (HEBREWS 12: 18 - 19, 22 - 24a)*

Brethren: You have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers entreat that no further messages be spoken to them. But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant.

*The Word of the Lord.*

*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*
Matthew 11: 29ab

*Alleluia*
Take my yoke upon you, says the Lord; and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.
*Alleluia*

*GOSPEL*
“Every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. ”

*A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (LUKE 14: 1, 7 - 14)*

One sabbath when Jesus went to dine at the house of a ruler who belonged to the Pharisees, they were watching him. Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose the places of honour, saying to them, “When you are invited by any one to a marriage feast, do not sit down in a place of honour, lest a more eminent man than you be invited by him; and he who invited you both

FIRST READING
“This is the will of God, your sanctification.”
A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 4: 1-8)

Brethren, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you learned from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, you do so more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honour, not in the passion of lust like heathens who do not know God; that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we solemnly forewarned you. For God has not called us for uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 97: I and 2b.5-6. 10. l 1- 12 (R. 12a)
R/. Rejoice in the Lord, you just.

The Lord is king, let earth rejoice;
let the many islands be glad.
Justice and right are the foundation of his throne. R/.

The mountains melt like wax
before the face of the Lord,
before the face of the Lord of all the earth.
The skies proclaim his justice;
all peoples see his glory, R/.

The Lord loves those who hate evil;
he guards the souls of his faithful;
he sets them free from the wicked. R/.

Light shines forth for the just one,
and joy for the upright of heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, you just;
to the memory of his holiness give thanks. R/.

ALLELUIA Luke 21:36
Alleluia. Watch at all times, praying that you may be able to stand before the Son of man. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 25:1-13)
“Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.”

At that time: Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. “As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ “Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise,' Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise replied, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ “And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other maidens came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ “But he replied, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you. ’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Today, as we celebrate the Feast of Saint Augustine, it's notable that Pope Leo XIV is the first Augustinian to become Supreme Pontiff. Before his papacy, he served as Prior General of the Augustinian order as Fr. Robert Prevost, OSA. On the day of his election, May 8 this year, he proudly declared, 'I am an Augustinian, a son of Saint Augustine, and has since frequently drawn on the wisdom of his spiritual father in speeches and messages. Through Saint Augustine's intercession, may Pope Leo XIV have a long, fruitful, and holy pontificate.
