A MOMENT OF PAIN AND TEARS IN KAKUBO VILLAGE
By Chongwe Youth Advocate
Today, our office was rushed to a scene that left us deeply shaken and broken-hearted in Kakubo Village, Katoba Ward. Heartless cattle rustlers struck again, stealing three giant bulls from one owner β animals that represented years of hard work, sacrifice, and survival.
All three bulls were killed. The criminals disappeared with two, leaving behind devastation, grief, and unanswered questions. What we witnessed was not just a crime scene β it was a familyβs future destroyed, a community left in fear, and trust shattered.
The owner stood helpless, surrounded by neighbors equally shocked and traumatized. Tears flowed freely. Voices trembled. This pain is made even heavier by the fact that this is the second time these same people have suffered such a cruel loss. How much more are they expected to endure?
In this dark moment, we sincerely thank the men and women in uniform from Palabana Police Station for responding swiftly. Their presence brought a small sense of hope, and serious investigations are now underway.
With aching hearts, we make a desperate appeal to the Government of the Republic of Zambia:
please strengthen security, especially at checkpoints along Leopard Hill Road. Our farmers are living in fear. Their livelihoods are being stolen in the most painful way.
This is more than cattle theft.
This is hunger created, dreams crushed, and lives pushed into despair.
Our community is crying out for protection, justice, and peace.
