That we get to empower our mothers and aunties with a skill and equipment and then purchase goods from within our Bakashana family is a great blessing!

Last month we were honored to host nearly 200 members from 18 of our 27+ Girls Leading Our World and Boys for Change clubs for a full-day event in Kasama featuring their talents, passion, and healthy bodies! With Guest of Honor, Ministry of Health Adolescent Point Person- Madam Lupili in attendance the day was inspiring and motivational with youth sharing their successes, challenges, and ideas for a brighter future. Find something here with us at Bakashana!
๐ถ"I won't stop coming to Bakashana, because I find something here".๐ถ Women from the sewing and knitting cooperative broke into song on Tuesday as we ordered our first consignment of school sweaters. This assistance is truly full-circle: 1) the women formed a group on their own, and started by practicing hand knitting and hand sewing with volunteer teachers within the group 2) thanks to Tools with a Mission, we provided the group with knitting and sewing machines 3) the group has been given a loan to purchase materials so that 4) we will be purchasing all of our school uniforms and sweaters from them in January!

Girls Leading Our World and Boys For Change Camp 2024, Lake Tanganyika
For the third year in a row we were honoured to host 60 youth and 20 coaches, teachers, and staff from more than 30 schools for a four-day, three night camp themed "Our Bodies, Our Culture, Our Lives". Sessions on Consent, Healthy Relationships, and Harmful Traditional Norms were accompanied by lots of FUN (as you can see in the video)! This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity gives our coaches, collaborating teachers, club members, and select staff the opportunity to dive deep into social, cultural, psycholgical, and physical issues that are having a real impact on youth in our communities.

One of our trained caregivers sings a song encouraging happiness among a few of the children at our daycare centre "Incende Iya Nsansa", The Place of Happiness. Monthly, this program serves 40 children and their families. We serve focused groups of children every day with physiotherapy, healthy meals, socilization, basic motor skills function development, and maybe most importantly-love and acceptace. We also share with each of their families some basic needs through monthly care packages which include toiletries and rice . #servingchildrenwithspecialneeds #happiness #heart #zambia #kasama
Thank you TWAM!
Our Sewing and Knitting Group is one of our favourite projects. One reason it's our favourite is that we had nothing to do with it! ๐This group formed organically amongst the women we serve through literacy classes, general charity, and health services and is now 30+ strong! The women teaching the classes are doing so on a completely voluntary basis. Through a wonderful collaboration with Tools with a Mission we have been able to boost this group's motivation with high quality equipment, and many of the women in the group are on their way to increased financial independence through valuable skills! Thank you TWAM!
"If you wanna be somebody, if you wanna go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention!"
"If you wanna be somebody, if you wanna go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention!" This song (Sister Act 2, anyone?) has become a motto for our scholarship beneficiaries. Here, we sing in chorus with the grade 12's after a recent "Career Guidance" session during our workshop.
