In the last week 5 r**e cases of a child under the age of 15 have been reported in Kasama District alone. An average of 7 every month. For each Survivor this amounts to a life ripped apart, an innocence lost.

Since the withdrawal of USAID, all funding for Sexual Violence follow-up in the Province has dried up. To respond to this emergency crisis, Bakashana has stepped in to empower the team at the One-Stop Centre- providing transport, financial support, and anything we can to help ensure Survivors get the care they need and that Perpetrators are brought to justice.
We encourage the community to continue making noise and standing up as we did together during our March in May. Our children are not safe and more needs to be done about it, urgently.

Our Youth Coaches make our work go round!
From hundreds of applicants over the last five years we have had the pleasure of forming an amazing group of 30 Youth "Coaches" who lead our Outreach in schools facilitating three curriculum: Life Skills, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Financial Literacy. These dynamic Young Leaders bring energy, enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge into the classroom and share it actively with our more than 2,300 club members through 29 clubs in two districts. As we welcome another term and bid farewell to our children as they return to school, our enthusiasm grows with each passing year. ✨✨Our service is holistic✨✨
Luswepo behind the laptop has been sponsored by Bakashana since grade 8. She is now in her final year of University pursuing her Bachelor's in Social Work. She has been interning with us for the last few months and this week, as we host our secondary scholarship grantees, she has been lending in a hand in distributing groceries, counselling the pupils, and offering general support. From recipient to distributor, Luswepo has felt the benefits of service and now seeks to helps others.
It is beautiful to see our work come full circle!

We believe that everyone deserves to have fun, no matter their age and social status. At Bakashana, we don't just do charity work; we also create spaces for people to be themselves and let loose. Life can be tough, and challenges can weigh us down. But we shouldn't forget to enjoy every moment! 🌟

Last week, we successfully conducted a Gender-Based Violence sensitization program at the Ukusefya Pang'wena (The biggest traditional ceremony in Northern Province) ceremony, through collaboration with our local partners. We provided essential services, like:

- Family planning
- GBV awareness
-Importance of Education
- HIV counselling and testing etc

However, we noticed some challenges:
- Many women in that rural community still lack confidence to use family planning due to fear of their husbands' reactions.
- Some young people have no value for education, preferring marriage over schooling.

We'll use these insights to ensure we improve our work.

An up-close look at our coaches and Girls Leading Our World/Boys For Change (GLOWBFC) clubs. Alfred, one of our Senior Coaches who has been doing this work for a long time, takes us to a school called Ntumpa to meet club members and get a better idea of what GLOWBFC is to them. Ntumpa is one of the 30 rural schools we reach every two weeks thanks to passionate coaches like Alfred and Sephora, and generous funding from AmplifyChange .

Last week, we hosted a successful GLOWBFC inter club Debate tournament in Bemba, one of Zambia's popular local languages. This event gave our youth especially those coming from rural schools a chance to express themselves in a language they are comfortable with.

It wasn't just about sexual reproductive health rights, but also about celebrating our culture and heritage. It was another way to remind our youth that Intelligence isn't measured by one's English vocabulary but by the ability to think critically and perform well.

By debating in Bemba, we showed that intelligence comes in many forms and languages and our youths should be free to express themselves in their own local languages as much as they can. Special thanks to Amplify Change and our support team.
