PEMBA FAMILIES LEFT HOMELESS AFTER COURT-ORDERED DEMOLITIONS.

By John Shikabe

Ten families in Mwiindilila Village of Chief Hamaundu Chiefdom in Pemba District have been left homeless after their houses were demolished under a court order, carried out under heavy police presence.

It is alleged that the families built their homes on land belonging to Lena Hachaambwa, a private individual who earlier this year obtained a court order for the demolition of the structures.

A check by our staffer, John Shikabe, found the affected families salvaging belongings from the wreckage.

And speaking in an interview, the families claimed that they have lived on the land for over 50 years, insisting that the land is on title.

Meanwhile, Pemba Member of Parliament Lameck Hamwaata has described the situation as unfortunate and has called on relevant authorities to urgently identify alternative measures to assist the displaced families.

OVER 50 FARMERS LOSE K1 MILLION IN PRODUCE SCAM

By Namangolwa Mushokabanji

Over 50 soya bean and maize farmers from Central and Lusaka provinces have allegedly been swindled out of over K1 million worth of their produce they supplied without receiving payment.

The farmers have told Prime TV2 news that they supplied their crops to Alliance Genary through a man of Indian origin during the last farming season.

Aaron Chomba, an agent who delivered the produce on behalf of the farmers, explains that the said Indian man had previously made timely payments, but failed to do so after receiving the latest consignment in April this year.

And United Party for National Development National Deputy Youth Chairperson, Trevor Mwiinde, has condemned the crookedness by some businessmen who take advantage of farmers by scamming them of their hard-earned produce.
