KAWAMBWA ROAD WORKS | A Step Forward, But Not the Finish Line.
By Mwangilwa C. Abel | Environmental Advocate
For many years, residential roads in Kawambwa were left unattended to, overgrown with grass and, in some cases, nearly impassable. This, however, appears to be a story of the past.
In the recent few weeks, sources and vivid works have hinted that through the efforts of Kawambwa Town Council in partnership with World Link and the support of local contractors, Kawambwa is witnessing significant residential road works. Gravel has been laid, and roads that had long been attended to are once again accessible.
This achievement is commendable and deserves recognition.
However, it must be noted that gravel alone may not provide a lasting solution, particularly as Kawambwa is prone to heavy rains. Without the construction of proper drainage systems and the implementation of regular maintenance schedules, these roads risk being washed away and returning to their former state. Better still, the roads need to be tarred.
The way forward is clear. The council and its partners should prioritize drainage and maintenance to safeguard this investment, while as a community, we must play our part by protecting the works, avoiding misuse, and ensuring cleanliness.
CALL TO ACTION: Let us, as citizens, support and complement this progress by taking ownership of our roads while urging our leaders to commit to long-term solutions. Together, we can ensure that Kawambwa not only rises but continues to move forward sustainably.
