HEAVEN APPROVED POLYGAMY ๐Ÿ’ฏ
Heaven approves the polygamy of sharing the environment. She is the one Bae we can all marry, proudly and openly, and the only bride cable of sustaining all her lovers, even if it means the whole human race and animals combined.

We show her love when we choose clean air over smoke, reduce plastic waste, and walk or cycle instead of polluting the skies. Clean Air means Healthy People. Each small act of kindness is like a vow renewed. I mean, "its in the simple things ๐Ÿ˜Š.

The environment is not jealous, she welcomes every hand, every heart, every effort. Together, letโ€™s love her back as she returns the favor.

Happy World Environment Day โค๏ธ

KAWAMBWA ROAD WORKS | A Step Forward, But Not the Finish Line.

By Mwangilwa C. Abel | Environmental Advocate

For many years, residential roads in Kawambwa were left unattended to, overgrown with grass and, in some cases, nearly impassable. This, however, appears to be a story of the past.

In the recent few weeks, sources and vivid works have hinted that through the efforts of Kawambwa Town Council in partnership with World Link and the support of local contractors, Kawambwa is witnessing significant residential road works. Gravel has been laid, and roads that had long been attended to are once again accessible.

This achievement is commendable and deserves recognition.

However, it must be noted that gravel alone may not provide a lasting solution, particularly as Kawambwa is prone to heavy rains. Without the construction of proper drainage systems and the implementation of regular maintenance schedules, these roads risk being washed away and returning to their former state. Better still, the roads need to be tarred.

The way forward is clear. The council and its partners should prioritize drainage and maintenance to safeguard this investment, while as a community, we must play our part by protecting the works, avoiding misuse, and ensuring cleanliness.

CALL TO ACTION: Let us, as citizens, support and complement this progress by taking ownership of our roads while urging our leaders to commit to long-term solutions. Together, we can ensure that Kawambwa not only rises but continues to move forward sustainably.

I was glad to join the Keep Zambia Clean, Green, and Healthy campaign in Mushota, Pambashe Constituency.

This was an initiative led by Kawambwa Town Council with support from stakeholders such as ZAFICO and the blessing of Chief Mushota.

Key activities included:
โ€ข Slashing overgrown grass around the Mushota Rural Health Centre maternity block,
โ€ข Sweeping and drainage cleaning around the market,
โ€ข Distribution of 10 waste binsโ€”strategically placed at Mushota Market, and Primary & Secondary Schools.

MAJOR CHALLENGE:

A major challenge in the area is the indiscriminate disposal of sugarcane remains (bagasse), plastics, and bottles, particularly into roadsides and drainages.

A GLIMPSE OF HOPE:

While on-site, I watched kids casually litter sugarcane waste but after a calm conversation, they happily began collecting and throwing it into bins. It was a simple, joyful moment that proved:
Mindset change is possible and it often begins with one conversation.
With patience and awareness, we can shape future stewards of the environment.

COMMENDABLE EFFORTS:

Thanks to Kawambwa Town Council for championing such practical, community-centered interventions. Providing bins and engaging stakeholders is a solid step toward sustainable waste management.

A CALL TO ACTION:

To the people of Mushota and beyond:
โ€ข Use the bins provided,
โ€ข Keep litter out of drainages,
โ€ข Teach our children to care for the environment.

The change begins with us. Letโ€™s protect our environment not just for today, but for tomorrow.

REFUSE | NON-RECYCLABLE PLASTICS

By Mwangilwa C. Abel
Environmentalist | Communicator

โ€œNon-recyclable plastics cause more harm to the environment than we sometimes realize. They can persist for thousands of years without decaying.โ€

Globally, an estimated 11 million tonnes of plastic waste leak into aquatic ecosystems each year, while microplastics accumulate in the soil from sewage and landfills due to the use of plastics in agricultural products.

This yearโ€™s World Environment Day, themed โ€œEnd Plastic Pollution,โ€ calls for a united global effort to reduce plastic pollution and protect our planet.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Practice โ€œREFUSEโ€

REFUSE means exactly that. Saying โ€œNoโ€ to unnecessary or harmful products. In this context, non-biodegradable and non-recyclable plastics.

REFUSE IN PRACTICE:

โ–ถ๏ธ At the grocery store, decline plastic bags or packaging you donโ€™t need. Instead, carry a reusable bag.

โ–ถ๏ธReuse plastics you already have rather than constantly accepting new ones.

โ–ถ๏ธMake a personal commitment to avoid single-use plastic whenever possible.

Rember this; question every purchase: โ€œDo I really need this plastic?โ€ โ€œIs there a more sustainable alternative, perhaps a box?โ€

Together, by choosing to REFUSE, we take a small but powerful step toward a cleaner, healthier planet.

Happy World Environment Day.

We were part of an impactful undertaking in Kalembwe Village, Luapula Province. And we agree with the words of Jane Addams:

"The good we secure for ourselves is precarious (unsafe, insecure) and uncertain until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life."- Jane Addams
